Haeger, Hensley non-tendered

SAN DIEGO -- The Padres tendered contracts to 33 players on Friday, but didn't tender contracts for 2009 to two pitchers who appeared on the Major League roster last season, right-handers Clay Hensley and Charlie Haeger.

Hensley, 29, appeared in 32 games for the Padres in 2008, going 1-2 with a 5.31 ERA. He started the season on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain and was reinstated on June 6. He had shoulder surgery the previous September which led to his DL stint to start the season.

Hensley also made 16 appearances for Triple-A Portland, going 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA.

Over parts of four Major League seasons with the Padres, Hensley is 15-18 with a 4.09 ERA in 106 games. His best season came in 2006, when he went 11-12 with a 3.71 ERA.

Haeger, 25, was claimed off waivers by the Padres from the Chicago White Sox on Sept. 10. The knuckleballer made four relief appearances with the Padres, posting a 16.62 ERA.

He spent most of the season at Triple-A Charlotte, going 10-13 with a 4.45 ERA in 28 games. Over parts of three Major League seasons with the White Sox (2006-07) and Padres, Haeger is 1-2 with a 6.35 ERA in 19 games.

Aside from Hensley and Haeger, the Padres tendered all of their arbitration-eligible players -- outfielders Scott Hairston and Jody Gerut, infielder Luis Rodriguez and pitcher Heath Bell.

The Padres, who added two players in Thursday's Rule 5 Draft, now have 37 players on the 40-man roster after non-tendering Hensley and Haeger.
