Padres Dissed in All Star Selections

East coast media bias reached a new low this week with many All Star caliber Padres being left off the team. Jake Peavy, Kouz, Brian Giles, Maddux, Trevor, and Heath Bell all deserved a place on the team, but were snubbed by the elitist in the northeast. Its gotten to the point where only NY and Boston players are picked as All Stars. A small but good market like San Diego doesnt have a chance.

Kouzmanoff: His time will come.

Hoffman: Has a 5.08 ERA. He shouldn't be put on the team for sentimental reasons.

Bell: Its rare when a specialist reliever from a good team makes an All Star Game, let alone one from a club that is 20 games under .500.

Maddux and Giles: See Hoffman

Peavy: Valid argument that he should be on the team. But, if I were a Padres fan, I would be glad if he isn't on the team because I wouldn't want to see him possibly get injured in a glorified exhibition game.

I don't see how east coast bias entered in to this. When one club gets overrepresented (Cubs) then other teams have to pay the price. It would have been nice of Hurdle had selected Bell instead of Marmol for the ASG. And it is awfully hard to get multiple selections to the ASG when the team is performing poorly.

Some NY players do not get the "east coast bias" you are referring to. Jose Reyes out performed both of the offensive guys you mentioned in almost every catagory. Heck he even out performed the small market SS's who made it over him(Tejada/Guzman). Players get snubbed every year. The All Star process is far from a perfect science.

Sure we might offend a few of the blue noses with their elitist attitudes but we dont care. We will never be the darlings of the chabliss and brie crowd who disdain us. Thats no reason to diss Padres who are worthy of the All star game.

I think this is the best point, the team is poor and therefore, traditionally, doesnt get more then 1 or 2 reps in the ASG. The only player i see on their roster you could make an arguement for is Peavy.

Are you for real ? Its not a conspiracy that causes the Padres to blow.

Let's see.... The Padres have one of the worst records in baseball yet deserve six all-stars. Sure dude.

Marmol wasn't picked.
He was voted in.

And of the guys he mentioned, only Peavy was snubbed (albeit he did miss some games due to injury).

Six all-stars? For a team doing as poorly as the Padres?

Really, the most represented team in the Nl (how does Boston figure in this? The braves left half a centurty ago.) is in the Central Time Zone, so that alone makes the premise ridiculous.

I think ignorance on any coast or flyover country is worse than bias no matter where it is coming from. Sheesh.

I've seen both chablis and brie in San Diego, btw.
