Stros To Sign Loretta

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2719795

Only a 1 yr deal, $2.5m - $3.5m. Looks like he will play several positions.

Interesting. Makes me wonder if this doesn't make Burke or Bruntlett expendable in a deal for either another arm for the rotation or a true centerfielder.

The Astors need one more SP and the trade light is on green. That's what the Loretta deal looks like. I'm thinking Ensberg w/ maybe a minor league player. Maybe Everett. I know Everett's bat is weak but I'll swap that for his soild glove.

Is Hunter Pence a true outfielder? ...and is he expected to make the ML squad?

Asking cause I don't much about him except that he was apparently a hot prospect last year - saw him in (I think) the futures game.

I wouldn't think Pence would be expected to make the ML squad. If Palmeiro is still on the team, that would make 4 outfielders already, Pence might very well be better than Palmeiro, but I dont think he has played in AAA yet, and will most likely start the season in Round Rock.

Pence is an outfielder, but his defense is listed as suspect at best. Right now, the best centerfielder on our team might be Lance Berkman At least as far as what they've shown me up to now. Jason Lane is a solid guy, gets a good jump and has a good glove and arm, but really doesn't have the range to play center in Houston. Chris Burke is probably the man, and that's a bit scary. Really wish we'd gone after Kenny Lofton.

There has to be another deal now that Loretta is signed.
