Pettite goes to Yankees
http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp...=.jsp&c_id=hou
Makes no sense at all.First he's going to retire to spend more time with his family and can be with them more. The reason he left the Bronx was to be with his family now he decides to go with the Yanks. If he's looking for another ring I highly doubt he's going to get it division is just to tough. After seeing this is either tells me Roger is retiring or going to New York i'm thinking he's planning retirement though. |

Pettite gave the Astros a chance. He said he would take 2 Million less to go to the Astros and they didn't want to go above 12 million or something like that.

Wag The Dog
Andy had no intention of pitching for the Astros again. He would not have been looking at houses in Rye, NY a month ago or buying a house in Rye last week the day after he announced he was not retiring if he had intended to play for the Astros. We were little more than a ploy on his part to jack up the price the Yankees paid. I am proud of our management for not falling into the trap and getting in a bidding war. Astros match the offer, Yankees up it. Repeat process.
The Astros was not going to give him a 2nd year player option with problems related to his elbow. The Yankees did. Coming on the heels of the Bagwell Saga, I can see how this would terrify the Astros (and should terrify most teams). They would be gambling not just this season, but next season, on the fact that an older, injury prone playser won't get hurt. He blows out his elbow in spring training and the Astros have zero budget flextibility to sign someone else for two years. Andy had his mind made up he wanted to pitch for the Yankees again. That is all well and good. I think a player should do what is best for them. But I really resent him having a press conference and trying to make the Astros out to be the bad guys becuase they didn't try hard enough to get him again. His remark that when we started shopping for another pitcher it showed we didn't want him is BULL. Pettitte needs to be a man and admit he had no intention of pitching for Houston again and let it be over and done with. |

Also got a chuckle out of a couple of NY articles after the signing talking about Andy being 'back where he belongs' and making it to be a case of the 'Stros stealing Pettitte from the poor old Yankees. Never mind all of the players the Yanks have 'stolen' from other teams over the years Just goes to show that as 'dirty' as the business of baseball can be sometimes, all it takes is one or two writers from some city's Daily Rumor to dirty it up some more. |

Plain out 200 million dollar payroll makes the difference. If the Astro's had the money like the yankees did he would be playing for them.
