Astros Sign Lee

Astros reportedly reel in Lee
Veteran slugger to ink six-year deal with Houston

Not official, but looks like Purpura pulls in big fish. The deal looked iffy over the last couple of days. Another big bat to compliment Berkman.

A source told ESPN's Jayson Stark that the Houston Astros were set to announce Friday afternoon that they have signed the free-agent slugger to a six-year, $100 million deal. The only significant non-monetary clause in the contract is that Lee will have a complete no-trade clause for the first four years of the contract and a limited no-trade for the final two years.

This seller's market has just exploded. Purpura had to sweeten the pot, but man that's a lot of $$$$$$.

OK, I realize you may consider this a dumb question, but its important to my baseball sim teams!! Even with Lee in LF, do you think Berkman will still get a couple of games in the OF this year or will he play every single game at 1B?

I think Berkman will stay at 1B.

I am hoping that if there's a few games that they want Lamb to play 1B, then Berkman may still get a few games in the OF if they wanted to give Lee or Scott the day off. But if you think Berkman will stay at 1B all year, then it sounds like Lance will get the day off when they want Lamb in the lineup. I would have figured that given Lee's tendancy to wear down after the All Star break, that he would get a few more games off than Berkman.

It makes Chilly Willy in CF virtually inexpendable, not that that's a bad thing necessarily. El Caballo was not at the top of my shopping list a month ago, but I am glad we got him. Damn the dollars, man! Everyone said Nolan Ryan was good, but not worth a million 27 offseasons ago.

As much as I like the guy, it probably makes the most sense to trade Chris Burke now. Eric Bruntlett can fill a backup CF-2B-SS role for now cheaper, and we could add another fine arm maybe for Burke.

If CB could play some third, I'd be more than happy dealing Ensberg for the arm and having Lamb, Burke, Bruntlett? at third.
