I don't know why people are jumping of Marte already. He was 22 last season, an age when a majority of prospects are still in the minors. Super prospect Alex Gordon is only 3 months younger than Marte. I'm not saying I'd rather have Marte than Gordon, but I'm trying to illistrate that he is still a prospect. Very few prospects come up and dominate right away. He started to slug at the end of the year (.488 in september). Our last great 3rd baseman slugged .299 at age 22 (117 ab) & .474 at age 23. Who? Jim Thome. It's just going to take a bit of time.

Andy Marte

So what's happening with him is he going to be the Indians' starting 3B next season?

With all the wailing and nashing of teeth I heard when the Braves traded him to the Red Sox, he'd better be the starting third baseman for the Indians. lol

Marte is supposed to be a mega-prospect, but he has been traded twice and the team that currently has him (The Tribe) don't seem to be too anxious to deploy. It makes you wonder if something is wrong.

By trading away Kouzmanoff, Indians laying all their eggs in one basket: Marte. I'm not sure if it would of been better to do Marte for Barfield instead.

Well Boston essentially traded Edgar Renteria, Guiermo Mota, Kelly Shoppach (good back up) for Coco Crisp and Doug Miribelli. I'd say that they were had. The Braves got a good deal on this guy, but I dunno how good of a deal that Tribe got.

No. Renteria/Mota/Shoppach/Mirabelli for Crisp/Riske/Bard/Loretta

It was the Padres deal to get Mirabelli back that messed everything up.

Cleveland is a bidder for Iwamura though so if the get him it would be a nice option. They would be able to trade Marte if need be for a closer or something.

The Indains lost out on the bidding for Iwamaura - but even if they had, Marte was still staying at third.

Marte came on as he got more accustomed to hitting major league pitching. He is the regular third baseman and he will be fine.

Now if Kouz hadn't been injured in 05 the Indians probably would not have traded Crisp for Marte+, but thats water under the bridge now.

By the way - San Diego was rumored to be interseted in Marte at the trading deadline - i suspect they were told, "thanks, but no thanks".

But Marte vs Kouz? No contest. Yes Kouz can hit minor league pitching and he is a good defender. But i think Marte has outdone Kouz at every level, is a much better defender, and was younger at every level.

You are so right. Marte is our man this year, and I would suspect that Blake will be a safety net.
