Is Hillenbrand now an option?

Today, the Padres released 3rd baseman Vinny Castilla. He was and always has been a defensive stalwart, but outside of Coors his offense has lacked. Today, the Blue Jays DFA'd their DH/CIF Shea Hillenbrand, is he a viable option at 3rd base?

It would definitely make sense. Hillenbrand really is a very good hitter and should produce wherever he ends up. Any 3B would be an uprgrade over what Castilla has done in 2006.

Castilla hasn't shown he can produce outside of Coors. He's always been good defensively.

While Hillenbrand’s offensive numbers make this look extremely tempting I don’t think that it will happen. The main reason is chemistry; Kevin Towers and Bruce Bochy usually have this in mind when making any addition or subtraction e.g. Phil Nevin to Texas, Rich Aurillia not resigned. There must be a reason why Hillenbrand has been traded three times while being offensively productive and this latest incident does not make him look like a good guy in the room.

True, chemistry is important. But if Hillenbrand won't go the Pads what is an option?

I think you're right about this, and I think the answer has everything to do with team chemistry.
