What If....

The Angels had kept both Bobby Jenks and Derrick Turnbow, instead of letting them leave for greener pastures, and with no compensation. They would have arguably the best backend of the bullpen in the majors, and three closer candidates.

Would all three co-exist? Would Rodriguez still be the closer? Knowing that they could play at the major league level, what could the Angels get in trades for one (or both?)

Somebody posted an article on the Angels site saying that Jenks was a serious head case. I think he and Turnbow languished in the Angel farm system for a while.

When you look back at the great teams that were built with home-town players, you're always surprised by some can't miss players that bounce around and have mediocre careers or get injured, and you're surprised by some of these late-round draft picks that make it into stardom.

The Angels will never truly know what they've got until their prospects perform at the MLB level. They're reluctant to trade any of these people for fear they'll miss out on a superstar, which is why they never make a deal. I support that reluctance because I'd like to see them take a shot at developing Hall of Famers and fielding teams like the 1996-2000 New York Yankees. I've watched this team for over 40 years and this new owner Moreno is providing exactly the kind of leadership the Angels have lacked their entire existence.

Jenks was a real head case and and no one could keep him out of the bars. He would be up all night drinking and try to pitch the next day. I am glad to see he got it together to bad hes not with us. As for Derek he sucked when he was with us thats the thing with prospcts you never know how there going to turn out.

Didn't Jenks have a nasty arm injury that prevented him from advancing past Salt Lake?
