Redman

Mark Redman for are All Star.

I think its dumb. No doubt that Grudz should have been
He has been the most steady he is batting just under 300 and he has not one error this season.

6-4 with a 5.27 ERA is good for a royals but not ALL STAR stats.

I wasn't thrilled with Redman's choice, but Grudz is no prize either. Despite hitting .290+ his OBP is .328 (below the league average) and his OPS is .731 (again below league average). His errorless streak is nice, but he is a long stretch from being a "plus" defender.

I would have been happy to forfeit the Royals selection to a player deserving of the honor. Had DeJesus stayed healthy he might have been a good choice.

Redman wins his last start before the All Star Game

Some more Mark Redman talk. Here are two articles, regarding Royals All Star Mark Redman.

REDMAN LEADS ROYALS OVER BLUE JAYS 6-2

Kansas City Royals left handed pitcher Mark Redman, the Royals lone All Star game representative, pitched like an All Star last night against the Toronto Blue Jays. Redman, who I have criticized a lot recently for not being worthy of his All Star game selection, lasted eight innings for the Royals holding the potent Blue Jays offense to only five hits. He allowed two earned runs lowering his season E.R.A. from 5.69 to 5.27 and with the win Redman improves to 6-4 on the season. Redman is now 6-0 in his last seven starts with a 4.05 E.R.A., and those my friends are in fact All Star caliber numbers. However, Redman started the season 0-4, and still does not deserve to be the Royals All Star representative.

The Royals offense was led by 1B Doug Mientkiewicz, who had two doubles and two runs batted in, and 3B Mark Teahen, who hit his seventh homerun of the season in the second inning. Emil Brown also drove in two, and Tony Graffanino provided a spark from the two spot in the batting order scoring three runs. Graffanino’s three runs proved to be all Redman needed to earn the win in his last start before he will make an appearance at the 2006 All Star Game at PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

Notes- After hearing some comments and doing some more research on the Royals, I have made a list of three players from the Royals who should have been selected over Mark Redman for the 2006 American League All Star Game.

1. Mark Grudzielanek- Has been one of the most consistent offensive 2B in the American League and is currently hitting .289 with 3 HR and 25 RBI. Compared to other 2B in the AL Grudzielanek is the most realistic All Star for his position that the Royals have. Unlike Redman, where there are ten pitchers who are more deserving, Grudzielanek arguably deserved to be on the team regardless of the rule. He has been hitting around .300 the majority of the year, but has struggled recently dropping it down to .289.

2. Former Rutgers outfielder David DeJesus has been a consistent offensive player for the Royals in 2006 and is currently hitting .315. However, DeJesus has been hurt for al large part of 2006 and has only played in 42 games. However, he has been of the main reasons for the Royals recent success.

3. Reggie Sanders- Sanders recently joined the 300 Homerun/300 Stolen Base club, becoming the fourth Major Leaguer to do so. Steve Finley, who also joined the club recently, stole some of his thunder.

The Worst All Star Ever?

July 2, 2006

Mark Redman is having a solid year for the Kansas City Royals, but the left hander certainly does not deserve to be pitching next Tuesday in the 2006 M.L.B. All Star Game. Redman, who was lone Royals selection, was picked due to the rule that one player must represent every team in the M.L.B. I am not debating the rule because there are Pros and Cons to both sides. However, should Mark Redman be on the A.L. All Star Team? He is 5-4 with a 5-59 E.R.A.! His E.R.A. is over FIVE! How could a pitcher with an earned run average over five ever be selected to an All Star team? This is not the Cedar Rapids, Iowa Beer League softball All Star Game, this is the M.L.B. All Star Game. An E.R.A. closer to six than five simply does not cut it. He has half of the wins of Justin Verlander, Curt Schilling, and Josh Beckett who were all not selected to the game. Also, Francisco Liriano is a strong candidate for the A.L. Cy Young Award and he was not picked for the game as well. Is he the Worst All Star Ever? That is for you to decide by filling out the comment sheet at the bottom of the page. I will post some of the replies on the site in the weeks to come.

Redman did not pitch last nigh

Mark Redman did not make an appearance last night for the AL in their 3-2 win. Redman, who was shown warming up in the bullpen on Fox, has a six game winning streak on the line when he returns to action after the break.

Steve Finley?

When did the Royals pick up Steve Finley? What did they have to give the Giants? He's past his prime but still a good player.

He meant joined the 300/300 club not the Royals.

I think when Redman was warming up the NL sent their bullpen cart over to bring him in!
