Guiel Sent to Omaha

In a mystifying move the Royals sent down veteran OF Aaron Guiel to Omaha to make room for Shane Costa as the 4th OFer. Costa has done nothing to indicate he will perform as well as Guiel and Guiel is much more used to the vagaries of being a 4th OF. In addition he can play CF in a pinch.

I would have thought shipping Costa, 24, to Omaha where he play everyday would have been the smart move. If the pre-2005 Emil Brown re-emerged (a real possibility) then Costa could have been brought back up to be the regular LF.

I don't think it is mystifying at all. I think they don't view Costa as an everyday player and want him to get comfortable with the 4th OF role.
