Royals Re-Acquire Graffanino
For some reason Baird thought we needed to re-acquire Tony Graffanino who the Red Sox had waived. To get Graffanino back Baird had to designate for assigment Chip Ambres. In the never ending maze of Baird's Blunders this one is not very big but has a comic element to it. Last summer Baird traded Graffanino to the Red Sox for Ambres. Now by executing this waiver/DFA manuever the trade in reality was Graffanino for Graffanino.
This soap opera is titled "As the Baird Turns".

This team would be much improved with a Choi/Brown platoon at DH and Chip Ambres in LF. In fact... Just DHing Choi straight up might have been best thing to do. (too late for that now) Of course, that move would make it necessary to trade Sweeney... but that has really been "necessary" for at least a year now. Why Allard picks up a player nearly identical to the one he has in Grudzielanek (old and mediocre) and passes on a player like Choi (cheap, tremendous raw power and great upside) is beyond me. |
