Why the Houston Astros were wrong...

http://wilkernator.blogspot.com/2006...ere-wrong.html

Quote:
Well, the saga continues between the Houston Astros and Jeff Bagwell.

Yesterday, the Astros $ 15.6 million insurance claim on first-baseman Jeff Bagwell was denied.

The Astros signed Jeff Bagwell to a huge contract that will pay him a lot of money.
Now the Astros want to get a ''refund'' out of Jeff Bagwell and possibly force him to retire, arguing he is too ''hurt'' to play.

Bagwell is coming off shoulder surgery and has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Now let's get down and dirty.

So the Astros GM signs Bagwell to a huge contract to keep the franchise first-baseman in town.
Repeat: The Astros signed Jeff Bagwell to a huge contract to keep the franchise first-baseman in town.

If we had to pint fingers at anyone it would be the Houston Astros.
They are the ones who put their names and huge sum of money on Bagwell's rich contract, they are the ones that wanted to have him, to keep him.

Now, they're cheating.

Baseball, as all sports, is a business.

Now the Astros are whining that Bagwell's too hurt to pay and they want their money back.
I'm sorry to say this, but you cannot do that.
You agreed to pay him that much money for that many years.
He has a contract and you must honnour it.

Jeff Bagwell deserves every penny of the $ 17 million he will earn in possibly his last season.
This is a lesson for all teams that overpay for plaeyrs and wants to sneak out of their trap.

Now there are all these journalists and fans that are saying that he's just hurting the team as much as he hurt himself.

Correction: The team dug a hole in which they cannot escape.
Jeff Bagwell will receive $17 million more in 2006.

Next time Houston, be smart and think about your actions.
They may have consequences on your future.
