Smile Happy Birthday to PREACHER ROE!

Today, February 26th, one of OUR star pitchers, ELWIN "PREACHER" ROE, turns 91.

Let's wish Preach some warm and wonderful birthday wishes, and many happy returns of the day.

If anyone has any special memories of Preach, please share them with US.

Happy Birthday to one of the nicest people to throw a baseball in the Major Leagues AND hit A Homerun. That day when he hit his Homer in 1953 had to be one of the greatest days in his life.

I remember that day, BB36. I believe it was a game against Pittsburgh. After Preach hit it, OUR guys in the dugout were laughing hysterically, so much so they rolled out a path of white towels for him to come down to the dugout, after he crossed the plate.

Roe had a wry sense of humor too. In The Boys of Summer Roger Kahn and Roe were discussing Roe's homer against Pittsburg and Kahn pointed out that it was Roe's only homer in 620 times at bat. Roe replied; "Yep. You got a secret weapon like that, you don't want to go showing it around."
