There has not yet been an official release if Lawrence has been placed on the 60-day disabled list but it sure looks like it.

Guillen out three months with a wrist problem. Now the race for the last outfield spot has become the race of two. Hopefully church and watson can win them out and make the starting day roster. This only makes Soriano's transition to the OF more important.

I have a feeling Soriano has just uped Vidro on who will be traded first. Guillen was our power hitter and now that he is gone, Soriano is the only other guy that can hit 30 HRs on our roster (Vidro can hit about 20).

I hope Guillen feels better soon. As if the season doesn't get more ugly for the poor Nats, they lose two key people in a week to injuries, which is not good.
Now the lineup worries me, losing ex-Buc Guillen for three cold months... |

Too bad LeCroy can't field any meaningful position. He could hit 25 HRs a season.

He hasn't had major arbitration yet, has he? I don't think he gets more than $350,000 max.

VIERA, Fla. -- Washington shortstop Cristian Guzman will miss the start of the season with a right shoulder injury after he was put on the 15-day disabled list Monday along with four other Nationals. Right-handers Luis Ayala, Ryan Drese and Brian Lawrence also went on the DL, as did first baseman/catcher Robert Fick. Ayala, Washington's top setup man in the bullpen last season, is to have ligament replacement surgery on his right elbow Thursday in Los Angeles and miss the entire season. He was hurt while pitching for Mexico during the World Baseball Classic. He was 8-7 with a 2.66 ERA in 68 appearances last year before an elbow injury ended his season. Ayala had surgery in October to remove a bone spur in the elbow. The Nationals are still waiting to see whether Guzman will need surgery on his throwing shoulder, which has bothered him for much of spring training. The hope has been that with rest and rehab work he could avoid an operation. Royce Clayton takes over Guzman's spot in the starting lineup. Lawrence, a starter who came over from San Diego in the offseason trade that sent third baseman Vinny Castilla to the Padres, was diagnosed with a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder after his first bullpen session of the spring. He could be out for the season. Drese has a right shoulder injury, while Fick had right elbow surgery this month.

Some news on Ryan Drese and injury report
Ryan Drese will start against the Astros on April 9, replacing Pedro Astacio, who was put on the disabled list on Saturday because of a right flexor strain.
Robinson indicated that Drese would have made the rotation had he not started the season on the DL. Drese had shoulder surgery in September, and Washington purposely started him off slowly. Drese didn't start throwing in a game until March 24. "He's a good option for us right now in that situation," Robinson said. John Rauch was not considered an option to replace Astacio because the skipper feels Rauch is best suited as the long man out of the bullpen. "I like Rauch the way he is. I don't want to be moving him back and forth unless it's completely necessary," Robinson said. "I want him to settle into his role in the bullpen. If he's the best option during the course of the year, we'll [put him in the rotation]." Injury report: Catcher-infielder Robert Fick rejoined the Nationals after spending a week in California with his ailing mother. Fick, who is on the disabled list, said that his surgically repaired right elbow is feeling better. In fact, he hit off a batting tee for the first time on Monday. Fick was already throwing the baseball before he went to California. Fick is hoping that he is activated by the time the Nationals play their home opener against the Mets on April 11. "By the time we leave New York, I'm hoping I could leave and play in Minor League games," Fick said. "I'm getting my work in. Let's see what happens." Shortstop Cristian Guzman, on the disabled list because of a tear in his right shoulder, is traveling with the team. Guzman is still trying to avoid surgery, but the shoulder is feeling tight, according to Guzman.
