Looking For Hilda and Sym-Phony Pics on the Web

I've searched the web till I'm cross-eyed trying to find pics of Hilda Chester and the Dodger Sym-phony at Ebbets Field. So far the only photo of Hilda I've found is the one posted by Dodger Deb in the history section. None of the Sym-phoney pics I've found show them at Ebbets Field. I know I've seen them on the web before. Where'd they go? What gives?

Here is a picture of the Dodgers Sym-phony with 2 Dodgers, I think one is Bobby Bragan who is the other. I found this picture on the net.

Thanks very much for the Sym-phony pic, Kramer 47. The Hilda pic you mention is the only one I could find on the web. Isn't that odd considering her fame?

Not a pic, but when I googled her, I found this book:

I also found this bio on her: http://www.baseballreliquary.org/HildaChester.htm

Articles about her: http://www.baseballlibrary.com/baseb...i.stm#articles

http://www.walteromalley.com/biog_ss_hildachester.php
Here's another pic of Hilda (the same, but as a link, not attached):

I also found this interesting article: http://www.baseballreliquary.org/EbbetsField.htm

Alas, no pic of her to be found. Sad, yet true.

Thanks for the links to those articles, Mattingly. Your efforts to find photos of Hilda aren't unappreciated either. Isn't it strange that there aren't more photos of her or the Dodgers Sym-phony on the web? I'm beginning to think it's a conspiracy. Will I wake up in the morning and find the photos of Howdy Doody or President Eisenhower have all mysteriously vanished from the web too?

You're quite welcome, and it was certainly my pleasure!

I thought for sure that with places like google, yahoo!, ask Jeeves and others, all having image search sections, that I'd be able to find some pictures of her. I'm guessing perhaps some full-fledged photo resource sites could do better.

I'm happy to have found and linked to the bios on her. However, with as many pictures of Ebbets Field and Dem Bums around for all the world to see, you'd have thought that Hilda, their most famous of fans, would've had more photos of her, perhaps also in her home and amongst her family also. Now *THAT* I'd truly love to see.

EDIT: Here's a few, but as wax figures in one, it seems:

I don't see any of Hilda while at Ebbets Field, the Polo Grounds or Yankee Stadium.

I've come across a few pix at the 2003 Stickball Classic in front of Brooklyn's Borough Hall.

I'm not sure how people will feel about this picture, but I guess it all depends upon how fans here viewed Hilda. Hopefully, nobody gets upset, but I did find it on ebay doing a google search.

This excellent and OOP book (Copyright 1974, W.W. Norton & Co.) was among the first retrsopective examinations of the greatest period in New york City baseball: 1947-1957 when almost every season there was a team from NYC in the World Series. Included are profiles of the teams and the fans who rooted for them. Almost all the pictures are from the archives of the NY Daily News, and among them was this one of Hilda Chester. There is unfortunately no indication when the photo was taken but I present it here for the Brooklyn Dodgers fans to enjoy again!

Another Excellent Book...

Here's another great photo book about the 1947-57 era in New York. I've seen it in Barnes & Noble book stores in the New York area, but not in other cities. You can order it online from Amazon.com and others.
