Polanco moves to SS. He's a pretty good 2b, maybe he can pull a Michael Young.

Armas and Carroll signed contracts so they can't be trade until midseason. And I don't know why Detroit would want them anyway.

There are some flaws to this trade:

(1) Detroit has no use for Soriano
(2) Detroit already signed Polanco to a 4yr deal in August
(3) Polanco had a short stint (81 games) at SS a few years back and his fielding was worse than Guzman's
(4) Guzman and Armas are untradeable
(5) No way would Detroit give away Ordonez (they are already thin in the OF anyway) AND a minor leaguer

But Polanco is still older than Guzman. Guzman can improve under the right condition while Polanco has nowhere to go but down. Maybe if Polanco had 1-2 years left on his contract I'd go for him, but 4 years is way to much for a guy in his 30s.

Great point.

If Guzman hits as well he did in September last year for the whole year this season, we're in pretty good shape at the SS position.

Polanco is a good player, but as KingJ said there's every reason to believe that he's on his way down, on defense and offense. Soriano is younger and approaching the normal peak ages, and although his fielding isn't as good he's a way better slugger who has some great peak years behind him. Polanco has one really good year (2005) and other than that a long stretch of mediocrity. We're better of with Alfonso.

I'd love to get rid of Armas though......

With Magglio Ordonez, again there's no reason to believe he'll ever be the player he once was. He's aging fast, coming off tons of injuries, and was only a fair hitting corner OF for Detroit last year (113 OPS+). The Nationals have about 5 players who'd make more sense to be starting in right field, plus one more if Sammy Sosa is signed. He wouldn't have a place on our team.
