Fred is an NFL'er(still playing)
Homer was a major leaguer.

What is the last name they share?

There was a Homer Smoot and a Fred Smoot. I'm not sure about the Floyd reference

I was thinking of Old Cold Nose when I typed in Floyd Smoot... Petticoat Junction and Green Acres and drove the train.
