Parts of Busch Stadium to be closed at home opener

St. Louis (KMOV) -- Exactly a month ago demolition crews took the final swing to bring down the old Busch Stadium. Now it's a race to finish the new ballpark.

Plenty of cameras have snapped up the progress outside Busch Stadium, now officially designated in high-rise form and trimmed out to say that St. Louis and the Cardinals are ready to play ball.

But Cardinals Vice President Joe Abernathy says there's still a lot to overcome.

Painters are getting a heavy workout throughout the stadium. Soon fans will be coming and going on many levels behind home plate and getting there by escalator, too.

Check out the view from the behind home plate. The playing field already etched out with a skyline backdrop.

For the first time, you can see the construction of the concourse from third base line and rounding to left field. Plumbers, ironworkers and other crews are on a tight schedule to build up where Busch Stadium used to sit.

Center field is still being scooped out, the centerfield wall is going up and the low side bleachers will soon follow.

The concourse off of the first base line is complete.

I learned today that not all parts of the stadium would be completed by April 10th. That is expected. Some upper concourse areas will be closed off until they are finished.

As far as seating, they expect 38,000 on opening day. Full capacity will be 46,000.
