autograph identification
My son just inherited a signed bat from his deceased grandfather. Trouble is we cannot figure out who it is signed by. Could someone identify the signature for me and perhaps give me an appraisal of what it is worth. It is authenicated from Dan's Dugout if that is any help.

DUDE, it looks like a Willie Mays although it's strange the authentication wouldn't say who it is

He apparently bought it at a pawn shop. I do not know when. It does have the Dan's Dugout sticker on the bat and a paper that says it is from Dan's. That is the only info I have. Thanks for your help.

It appears to be Mays alright. I can't tell if that's a "real" bat or not. How big is it?

That's definitely Mays, if it's in fact real. I have my suspicions, though. Where's Dan's Dugout? Remember, a certificate of authenticity is only as good as the person/company who stands behind it. Any neighborhood card shop can make their own COAs and they're easier to produce than the autograph. I would send it to James Spence Authentication if I were you. He's a leader in the authentication business. His website is http://www.spenceloa.com. It might be worth checking out.

I'm with pesky6. Get it authenticated by an expert (I'm not sure if PSA/DNA does bats, but they are the most trusted authentication buisness) and then you can worry about getting it appraised.

If it is authentic, then you got a load of cash on your hands.
