Ichiro kills a man on TV!
I just finished watching Ichiro kill a man on a Japanese TV crime drama. He played himself, returning from America and going to a hotel, where his older brother happens to be working. It turns out the brother is being blackmailed, something about an incriminating picture, and has made several cash payments to a shady figure. Ichiro agrees to help him make one final 10 million yen payment, and meets the blackmailer. But instead of paying, he kills the guy! First he signs an autograph ball for him, then suddenly gets him in a choke hold, taunts him a while, then makes him swallow poison. Then he calmly wipes off any prints that might have been left and walks away, with the dead guy sitting their foaming at the mouth. He's a pretty good actor... comes off as a convincing evil tough guy. But I can't believe he played that role. Has a sports celebrity ever done a part like that on American TV?

I remember reading a while back that he would be doing something like this. Sounds pretty cool, I wish I could see it.
No, I dont remember any sports celebrity doing this here in America. And definately not playing himself rather than a character.

Yeah, it was the fact that he played himself as a villain that was really amazing. The star of the show explained that originally they were going to have Ichiro play a character, but he said he'd rather just play himself. Guess he wanted to push the envelope and do something unusual. I wonder if it will hurt or help his value for endorsements. (He does a ton of them in Japan.)

I was thinking, if he wanted to get away with it, he'd better take the autographed baseball away with him!

I'm not sure about tv, but a lot of boxers have been used as heavies in movies throughout the years. 30's title challenger Tony Galento was in several pictures, most notably On the Waterfront. And Archie Moore mixed it up as a bad guy in one of the James Bond movies.

Unlike most other team sports, in which teams usually have an equivalent number of players on the field at any given time, in baseball the hitting team is at a numerical disadvantage, with a maximum of 5 players and 2 base coaches on the field at any time, compared to the fielding team's 9 players. For this reason, leaving the dugout to join a fight is generally considered acceptable in that it results in numerical equivalence on the field, and a fairer fight. |

In Kingpin, if you watch closely you can observ that Roger Clemens plays an angry guy in a bar who nearly beats up on of the main characters. He's kind of a minor bad guy in the movie, as his cameo lasts about two minutes.

Way better than his cameo in Anger Management. The whole world cares whether or not Adam Sandler changes. No wonder why the economy is in the shape it's in now, we were too worried he might yell at someone.
