How can I build forearm mass?

How can I build forearm mass without using machines or weights? Will push-ups help? If so, how many should I do daily?

Pull-ups, chin-ups, hang from a bar, squeeze a rubber ball are a few things you can do without weights.

Go to a sporting goods store and pick up some Hand grippers. You can keep them in your car, and use them everyday. Forearms like Calves are hard to make grow because they are used so much..you need to really hit them hard and often.

Number one way to build forearm mass is to get yourself a weight you are comfortable with on the barbell keep your arms down straight to your legs (holding barbell) and do curls with your hands with your arms fully extended (down and in front of you below the belt). Go about it slowly so you don't tear anything. I guarantee you by next summer you'll have arms resembling tree trunks.

You'll still want to do other exercises to develop the rest of your body also. Wouldn't want to screw your coordination up developing only one part of your body.

So when I do these curls, I just move my hands? And what other parts of my body should I work and how?

Yes when working your forearms just move your hands as if you were doing hand curls.

In building up your body for baseball the legs are the most important of all. They give you your power at the plate and throwing the ball. If you were doing just squats with no weights involved just five times every day you would be strengthening your lower body. Do 20-30 toe raises three times a week.

You wouldn't believe how much doing just 30-50 pushups a day will build your shoulders up by spring. 50 arm curls three times a week. 30 sit ups a day. Hold the barbell down at your hips and shrug your shoulders. This will also build your shoulders. If you did ten of these a day 4 times a week again by spring you will see the difference. Bench press a weight you are comfortable with and each week try to increase your repetitions by one or two times you'll be building strength.

Remember to condition yourself. Running wind sprints or finding a hill to run up will really strengthen your legs and your lungs. But the main thing is to not overdo things. Listen to your body if it says stop then stop. Over time your strength will build up. It will happen don't push things. Do it naturally you don't need any supplements.

Also if your school has a gym use it if you can and ask a physical education teacher and tell him what you want to do with your body. If he's worth his weight I'm sure he could give you a training program. Then just do it. Be fearless.

Pretty sure forearms are like calves in the sense that they are genetic above all else. You either have them or you don't. Not to say that you can't work on them and build them but some people, because of genetics, have a lower ceiling then others in terms of gaining size and strength.

You never really specified how many wrist curls I should do. However I have been doing them and been using hand grippers a lot. I can really see a difference.

I think the curls he is referring to are "reverse" curls, when your grip a barbell for a normal curl you will have your palms facing up. For isolating the fore-arms, grab the barbell with palms facing down. Then you'll be calling your girl friend Olive Oil (Popeye).

Sorry, I overlooked this part. Pardon my ignorance but my boys are 10 and 6 and neither have gone through puberty. I was always taught that you should lay off weight lifting until after puberty - perhaps you have as it hits different boys at different times. Up until puberty, use your body weight such as push-up and pull-ups. There are different types of push-ups that target different muscle groups. I'm not a fitness guru, this is just what I've been taught and I'm sure some will dispute.

Place your arms parallel to the ground out in front of you, palms out, fingers fully extended. Take the fingers and curl them in (like a cat pulling in their claws), release to the full extension, repeat rapidly as much as you can. Set goals for yourself. For my 13 y/o we use 100 repititions. It really works the forearm. Also check out SPRI products at www.spriproducts.com They are safe and inexpensive.

For the hand sqeeze drill you don't use weights. Just put them out and open and squeeze as fast as you can, you'll see that you tire very rapidly.

i played varsity last year(Freshman) and i had my exit speed clocked at 85mph without using the weighted bats. not to say that they dont work, which i can probably guess that they work pretty well just from the concept, but if you just do some regular curls and exagerate the wrist movement so that when you curl, your wrists are cocked.
