Jeff Weaver may sign with Halos

According to many reports. The Times, Daily News and OC Registar Jeff Weaver may sign with the Angels at a discounted rate to stay in S. California and pitch with his brother. If this happens the Angels will have a nasty staff
Colon, Lackey, Santana, Weaver, Escobar or Carrasco

Yes, I haven't heard much like that but would Carrasco realy be able to start? He was a reliever last season and started only 4 games out of his 70 or so he pitched.

JEFF WEAVER'S AN ANGEL
By Rev Halofan
Posted on Sat Feb 04, 2006 at 03:01:25 AM EST

Pitcher Jeff Weaver is an Angel. The ink is dry.

No specifics, but I got a call from my most trusted source saying all the rumors are true, the hometown discount applies (albeit with an incentive-laden two-year deal) - that the geography won out for the Halos and the older brother of Jered told BoBo Boras to back off.

You will hear about Monday everywhere else as Stoneman scrambles over the weekend to adjust the 40-Man roster.

UPDATE: Let this strengthen suspicions about the Manny trade being on the front burner.
Kelvim Escobar, Steven Shell and Juan Rivera to Boston is the latest...

I find it hard to believe that any client of Scott Boros would give a Home Team Discount. I understand that there are a lot of good reasons why siging with the Halos is a good idea for Jeff, but that usually takes a back seat to money when Boros is involved.

Frankly, Bud Black could be the best thing to happen to Jeff Weaver. He has terrific stuff and a 10cent brain. Black and Scioscia might be able to improve the mental side of his game which has always been his downfall.

Who knows, this may be the first discount Boros has ever given!

I like this signing. First, it makes a great storyline of the brothers Weaver teaming up to K the West Coast. Also a bonus: Jeff's presence and experience will work wonders for the little Weaver, even if he doesn't make the big club out of ST. Jeff was my favorite player when he was in Detroit, and I was pretty peeved that we traded him away (especially to the Yanks!). Of course now I'm happy with the trade, since we have Bonderman fully-developed and ready to be unleashed.

I believe the "hometown" discount is telling of Jeff's baseball motives. I remember quite well that Jeff took a substantial discount to sign long-term with the Tigers, in hopes of being on the team that finally brought baseball fever back to Detroit, only to get traded. He's still angry at us about that, and wouldn't even consider coming back here, but that's understandable. I think Jeff's ability to put his foot down on his super-agent says to us that he loves the game and it's theatrics. Jeff's a true baseball player, and I hope he finally dominates like he did with the Tigers. He could have easily had a couple of 20-win season in Motown if he would have had a decent supporting cast.
