Which City would Arte Moreno Consider Moving the Angels for the 2017 Season?
Arte suggested in the Los Angeles Times on November 22, 2005 that the city of Anaheim is "trying to run him out of town." If that is the case, which city would you think that the Angels would call home for the 2017 season?

I do not expect the Dodgers to do this, but if Arte is seriously thinking about moving, they should call him up and ask him if he is interested in moving the Angels to Dodger Stadium. From the Dodgers point of view, you can make a lot more money if there are 162 games at your park than just 81. If the conditions are fair, the Angels could still make a lot of money as a tenant. Just ask the New York Jets. They are still second-bananas in New York (like the Angels), but they have also made a lot of money at Giants Stadium, and they are going to be sharing the new stadium when it gets built. In L.A., the Angels can get more respect from the local media, and the TV networks can no longer say "you only represent Anaheim." They will also be able to wear "LA" on their caps and put "Los Angeles" on their road jerseys.
Would Arte be able to build a new stadium in L.A. if he didn't want to share with the Dodgers? It would be hard to find a better spot than Chavez Ravine, and it would be even harder to design a stadium that looks more beautiful... Eddie Cunningham

There is no way the Angels would EVER play in Chavez Ravine again. Anaheim is a much better place to watch a game, anyway. The Ravine would actually be a downgrade (it is older than the Big A which did have extensive renovations done in the last decade) and many Angel fans would get really turned off. Besides, there is a ten year window to settle with Anaheim or explore other places in the area in which to build a stadium. O'Malley really ripped off Autry before, and that would leave a bitter taste in the mouth of many old time Angel fans.
I think Arte has a lot of cards to play and ther would be certain places that would love to house the Angels, who seem to have a bright future. I see them trying to stay in North Orange County, South or Eastern LA County, or the Chino area on the San Bernardino/Riverside/Orange/LA Counties all meet. The base for the Angels tends to be that part of town.

Angel Stadium is a dump compared to Dodger Stadium. I've been to countless games at both facilities. The big A has no character...Disney tried to add some with fake rocks, cliched green seats, a cliched water show, green-painted concrete, old sideline Rams' seats used as a RF pavilion, and those goofy giant mesh batting helmets out front...but in person it looks like cheap fake-looking add-ons. Oh, and you get a view of the freeway out in centerfield compared to Dodger Stadium's breathtaking views of the hills and mountains (north) and downtown skyline (south).
The Angels should move to Vegas if it's still untapped by the time they can beat it out of Anaheim. ![]() |

Then again, he may just move to a new stadium in another part of Orange County or the suburbs if he gets the right to put "Los Angeles" on the road uniforms and put "L.A." on their caps. Eddie Cunningham

I also don't see the club considering anything east of Pomona or Chino and don't see the Corona area as being that attractive. Irwindale would be practical and was even suggested after the Rams moved into the Big A and the Angels were unhappy with what happen to their ballpark. When the Raiders considered Irwindale, there was also talk the Angels would consider a ballpark there, off the 605 Fwy between the 210 and 10 Fwys and rather close to the 57 and 60 fwys, too and not far from the Metrolink rails, and the Gold Line extension would pass nearby. Besides, Irwindale is ten minutes from my house. ![]()

The Angels may be a "second-banana" compared to the Dodgers, but they are a second banana that makes a lot of money. Whatever Arte chooses, I would be shocked if he were to move the team out of the L.A. metropolitan area.
(I know Angel fans don't consider themselves Los Angelenos, and it probably takes forever to drive there, but overall they are part of a gigantic metropolitan area that is called Los Angeles. What I'm trying to say is that Arte would be a moron to try and move the Angels to Mexico or Las Vegas.) Eddie Cunningham P.S. As a Marylander, "O.C." means one thing and one thing only.

If he wants to move someone has to build him a stadium. Ten years is a long time and the odds are Moreno won't even be the owner of the Angels by then. It is just a guess but I would suspect the team remains in Anaheim.

In 2016, the Big A would be 50 years old and the renovations would be 20 years old. The necessity of a new ballpark may hasten for the 1960s building may not be what is comperable and the industry standard. There have been several ballparks built as many as 10 years after the Big A that have seen the wrecking ball. Riverfront, Veterans, Kingdome, Three Rivers, Fulton County now Busch were all commissioned after Anaheim and now are no longer used with several others that need to be decommissioned as well (Metrodome, US Cellular, Tropicana) and Steinbrenner is wants a new Yankee Stadium which was just redone in the mid-1970s. In five years, a decision will be made and we just may see a new ballpark in So Cal.

I truly believe that the Angels will remain in Anaheim and the name will be back to what it belongs....Anaheim Angels! I am a native of Orange County and don't feel that I'm part of "Los Angeles" in any way. I don't say I'm from L.A. and I don't consider myself any way related to the city of Los Angeles. Lastly.....we in Orange County are not "snooty".....and those of us who were born and raised, don't call it the O.C., just those transplants and media friendly people do. ![]() |

I do know where LA ends and Orange County starts. It starts when and where I was born. I guess it's the loyalty to what you're born and raised with. Loyalty means a lot and where you're raised is what you know. Memories of watching the Angels with my father since I can remember. It would be sad if the team moved away but I would still be a fan and support "the team". I don't agree with the owner and the name change but that's not the players....that's the owner. I will always support the team, regardless of what they're called. Maybe the owner will change.....and the name will remain the same. ps....racist? ( 2nd message posted )...ouch. How does that make sense? ![]() |
