Dodger yearbooks

I have dodger yearbooks from 1955, 1956 and 1957. Then i have LA Dodger yearbooks though the mid 80's.

That is JOHNNY PODRES on the mound, and the Milwaukee Braves, Johnny Logan, #23, on deck.

Thanks DD. That sure looks like Jackie at first and Junior Gilliam maybe? I wish it was sharper. It would have been a rare day at first for Jackie but that could be Gil, it just doesn't look like him to me. I could be very wrong though. My guess is that this was 1953.

You are right, SS, it is difficult to make them out.

I do, however, think it was 1955. The reason I say that is, while I am not 100% positive, I think the Schaefer Player Awards (posted on OUR Scoreboard) didn't start until 1955.

On the Schaefer awards sign the top name looks like Valo. If that is so it would be 1957, which is the only year Elmer Valo played for the Dodgers. The problem is I don't remember Valo doing anything that would have gotten him player of the week.

Great photo of OUR DODGERS getting off TWA plane and being welcomed home by many Brooklyn fans, including OUR Dodger Sym-Phony. Judging by who is in the photo, I would say this had to be 1954.....

Who is that fellow between Campy and the argyle sweater. I have seen him in many Dodger photos and can never figure out who he was. I know he is not a player. For further clarification, he has a thin mustache and looks kind of like a B movie gangster. You will know DD.

That is LEE SCOTT ("Scotty"), OUR Traveling Secretary. Actually Scotty was was very nice guy, quite a "dapper" dresser, who everyone drove crazy.

Walker was a huge fan favorite and "the face" of the Dodgers for eight productive years in Brooklyn.

He left just before "The Boys of Summer" era and has all but faded from memory.

Curious -- and sad -- that he's hardly ever mentioned anymore.

Is it because he initially objected to Robinson joining the team (he later defended Jackie and gave him batting pointers)?

How did "The People's Cherce" fall from grace?
