Alex Gordon

Should they bring up this kid to give him some experience seeing how they are going nowhere this season anyways?

Apparently, Gordon is receiving an invite to Spring Training in 2006 by the Royals. However, I would be surprised to see him come anywhere close to the making the ML roster until at least 2007.

And then they're 3 games under .500 after July 1, heating up like mid-season '04.

I certainly believe that Baird and boys aren't above bringing him up. Think about it, they have nothing left to lose. Why not waste the remainder of your farm system, the way they've apparently ruined Zach Greinke, and bring up Gordon, after virtually NO minor league experience.

Baird has proven he's not afraid to just blow everything, in the name of a "youth movement",,,,,what total idiocy. !!!

If you are a limited money club, then you HAVE to build your system through your player development. You simply cannot run your young talent out there, day after day, every year, totally exposed to major league hitters and pitchers, who just eat them alive, and expect players to mature into quality and producing upper level talent. This has been proved time and time again. Yes, there are the rare occurences, such as Doc Gooden (jury still out on that one, though), Robin Yount, but they are certainly the exception, than the rule.

I think that we as Royals fans, can handle a few years of waiting for the talent to develop in the proper manner. Heck, it's been since 1985 since we did anything. What the crap is another 5 years?!?

Is Gordon that rare example? Are you willing to risk his entire baseball future gambling on that, or should you invest in the future of the team, and see what happens with him in AA, AAA --- NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES IN SPRING TRAINING! Spring training for great talent, but not yet developed, is a great way to guage these guys, WITHOUT the permanent damage of rushing them to the bigs.

I believe we have some talent; Greinke, Gordon, Gotay, Murphy, Butler, Lubanski, Huber, but they need some time in the lower levels to get the confidnece to move naturally up to the next level.

Why bring him up and start the free agent countdown going?? Let him play in the minors until you know he is ready. This will give Teahen a little more time to see if he is going to be anything worth having.

If there's one franchise being run stupidly enough to even consider calling up Gordon this year, it's KC. But it's unlikely that even Baird is THAT stupid. No, Gordon belongs in the minors for AT LEAST a year and a half. Best case, he starts in AA this year, and tears it up. At the end of the season, or to begin next year, he goes to AAA...and tears IT up. By then we have a better idea of whether Teahen is going to hit ML pitching or not. If he is, we then start thinking about moving one or the other to a new position. If he isn't, then we start thinking about getting Gordon into the position. But there's no way he should be in KC before July of 2007, even if absolutely everything goes PERFECTLY. Personally, I'd rather see KC wait, and maybe give him a September callup in 2007, then see what happens at the start of the 2008 season.

So many reasons NOT to call a player up too soon....ruins their confidence. Wastes "options" if they don't cut it. Start the arbitration and free agency clocks WAY too soon. Doesn't give them enough time to really develop their skills (power, control, finesse, baserunning, defense, you name it) so they can hit the Majors with their best stuff, ready to run, instead of having to "learn on the job" in a cutthroat environment.

The fact that Baird has a considerable portion of his reputation at stake (I know, big joke to us, right, but not to Baird) in Teahen panning out, is a big coincidental bonus in this case. Teahen will get more-than-adequate opportunity to prove himself, which means Gordon won't see the majors this year barring a massive cluster of injuries on the ML squad.

I said it was UNLIKELY that he's that stupid, not IMPOSSIBLE. When it comes to stupidity and Allard Baird, nothing is impossible. I haven't forgotten Dye for Neifi Perez already, believe me.

First things first: NO WAY they should bring Gordon up this year.

Now, in my MVP2006 (it's been modded) dynasty, it's late April for me, my guys are playing a couple games over .500, and I needed some lefty pop in my lineup (Stairs was just blowing), so I called up Gordon

He sucked, then I cranked up his ratings, and now it's all good -Power ROCKS!
