As far as I know, I've read his quotesthat he wasn't interested into going to the MLB. Instead he wants to stay for his whole career in the Japanese League.

And Yu Darvish won't be a FA until after the 2014 season. So don't wait for him. By then he will be a veteran.

what about this guy. If he meets Matsuzaka, Okajima and Tazawa, it'll be an easy decision over those other teams... |

In a non standard International transaction the Red Sox signed Reynaldo Rodriguez. The Red Sox signed Rodriguez out of the Independent leagues, Rodriguez who will be 23 yrs before 2010 Spring training, the 6-1 210 R/R Colombian playing in his first year in the independent leagues was considered the top prospect (By baseball America) Rodriguez was signed originally by the yankees as a 18 yrs catcher in 2005 and went to win the DSL bating tittle in 2006, but hurt his arm in 2007 (played in only 8 games) and got released in 2008, however he went to win the batting tittle of the 2008 Colombian Winter league. Rodriguez played first base in 2009 but its athletic and has good speed and perhaps projects as a corner outfielder, can hit for average and has gap power.

Rumour has it that Kikuchi has decided that he will pitch in Japan and not sign with a ML organization.

The Red Sox have released RHPs Javier Jimenez, Samuel Garcia and Danny Dilon, LHP Ernesto Reyes and 1B/OF Pedro Gonzalez. In addition there's talk that once highly regarded Venezuelan RHP Antony Alvarado who has battle injuries since signing and only pitched 2 IP (all in 2009) has also been released, but haven't been able to confirm this.

Wagner Mateo (after having his deal voided by the Cards) isn't the only top Dominican outfielder who haven't signed with a ML organization. Luis Jolly 6-3 205 R/R is a very promising prospect, a 6.6/60 runner, a CF, very athletic, his bat isn't as advanced as scouts would like, but i believe that in time he will be a good hitter.
Some other names to keep in mind for the July 2 2010 signing period are outfielders Felix Lora (6-3 185 R/R) and Vicnal De la Cruz (6-0 170 L/L) RHP Cesar Ortiz (6-0 180) and Arisvel Nova and LHP Edgar Ferreira Padilla. For those International scouting followers 3b Elvin Sanchez, SS Martin Peguero (6-1 180) and RHP Ronald Ferreras are names to follow in 2011. |

ESPN is reporting that Cuban Jose Julio Ruiz had a tryout with the Red Sox and Tigers recently. Ruiz a 25 yrs outfielder (6-2 195 L/L) isn't known for his power, but has good speed.

Scaff, what's the scouting report on NYY prospect catcher Gary Sanchez? Defensive orientated, big bat, balanced? Also, do you have a personal top 10 or 20 list of 2009 international bonus baby's (excluding Chapman and Iglesias)?

The Red Sox have signed Todd Claus to replace Johnny Dipuglia as Latin America scouting surpervisor. Call this move a mistake move (for sure a Craig Shipley move) not because Claus isn't a good scout, but this position should be filled by a Spanish speaking scout, a Latin scout and not by one who isn't.

The Red Sox have signed Cesar Cabral's little brother, by the way he is also a LHP and his names is Cesar Cabral, but his middle name is Ariel compare to his older brother which is Augusto. Ariel which its a late bloomer will be 19 yrs in January. The Sox also have signed a Dominican 2B (can't post his name until contract clears MLB) but he its also 18 yrs and both of this players are considered low bonus players.

According to BA the Red Sox have released Dominicans outfielders Roberto Feliz and Juan Bonifacio, in addition to Australian RHP Michael Lennox and RHP Wang-Yi Lin from Taiwan. Felix has good power projection, but has issues making contact, doesn't play good defense and was suspended for most of the 2009 season. Bonifacio plays good defense and has a good arm, but while he showed offensive skills in the DSL in 2008 struggle in the GCL in 2009 and its already 21 yrs. Lennox has good size and a fastball around 90 but has been inconsistent in the GCL the last two years. Lin has a arm similar to Lennox but has battle injuries since he signed with the Sox (including TJ surgery) and struggle at Lowell in 2009.
