Good shots. It's great that Citi is so close to Shea so you can get great pictures (assuming you took them).
Do they plan on imploding Shea? It seems too close to Shea.
TJH1923 mentioned that nobody has been posting Citi Field construction pictures here, so I figured I'd start a thread and put some up. I'll keep updating as time goes on.
If you're interested in earlier pictures, I have a few up at http://community.webshots.com/user/citi_field/ and http://mets.forumup.us/viewtopic.php...us&mforum=mets

honestly, I'm a big Yankee fan, but all I gotta say about CitiField is at least it's gonna look nice and look like a normal baseball stadium. Shea looks so ugly. I always thought it was the ugliest stadium I ever saw.
Even though I am a Yankee Fan, I look forward to seeing the progress of the construction of Citi Field. I was always interested in the construction photos of the original Yankee Stadium and the renovation photos from '73 to'76.
What's going to be just as intersting as the construction of citifield and demolition of shea is how they kick out an entire neighborhood of junkyards and businesses that have been there forever and replace them with hotels and a new neighborhood they plan on putting in. By the time that's done citifield may be outdated.
That area goes from Northern Blvd down to Roosevelt and out to Flushing Bay which is basically a mess of chemicals and pollution. Citifield seems like the smallest of the projects by comparison to that.
The mets don't what those junkyards near the new ballpark.

It looks like Citi Field is further along than the New Yankee Stadium. I know both are scheduled to open in 2009, but was ground broken for Citi earlier than Yankee?
Well, technically the Yankees officially broke ground first, but the Mets already had the groundwork laid out before their official groundbreaking ceremony. The Mets have been working on their stadium about 2 months ahead of the Yankees.
I imagine the space that the Mets have to build has much to do with their speed in building this monument to baseball. Yankee stadium area is cluttered and really lacks even enough room to park.
Awesome pics nyfan is showing. Nice job! Keep up the good work.![]()
One thing to keep in mind is this: In order to finish up at Citi Field, Shea Stadium needs to be knocked down... and if Shea is going to be knocked down, that means the ticket sales and other team offices, etc, have to be moved over to Citi Field before Shea gets the wrecking ball. I think I read that Shea should take about 3 months to demolish, and lets figure that paving the parking lot and doing the brickwork will take a month... so that means Citi Field would have to be ready around December of 2008, give or take.
The Yankees, on the other hand, could theoretically start their 2009 ticket sales at the old stadium and use the offices at the old stadium until right before Opening Day, since it wouldn't have to be knocked down/redeveloped right away.
Also, the first stages of work at Yankee Stadium seemed to involve building the structure for "The Great Hall" (see below) all around the stadium, so since there was nothing comperable to start with at Citi Field, this might also account for the difference in progress.

What will be the upper concourse up top here. Some cement filled in for the second level and the club level. They also installed the first structural steel for the bottom upper deck all the way to the left.
