So you liked him when he chose to wear #27 before winning #27 but you don't like him now when chooses to wear #28 before winning #28? Ya know...ya gotta be more consistent in your dislike of the Yankees. I myself am looking forward to when he wears #30. Nice round number.

Very good point about the consistency. In all of the 4 major sports in the USA, I can think of only one team owner who specifically wants to win a team finals title every single year. If someone wishes to fault him for this, so be it.

Since Big Stein emphasizes WS wins, I can only see anyone who is the Yankee manager having an equal dedication or fixation with winning it all. Why other than his inability to get past the ALDS since 2005, was Joe Torre fired? Had he lost the WS instead of the ALDS so often, I doubt his contract would've been so unceremoniously not renewed. Merely getting out of a losing season, such as 2008, isn't what The Boss wants or expects.

In short, being a Yankee manager and working for the Steinbrenner Family means that you have an understood commitment to winning the Big Dance. The two go hand-in-hand. :)

As much as he spends on salary, that's what pushes the magic button for instant revenue.

On another note, the NYC economy hasn't been too strong, so people spending money at sports bars, at apparel stores, at restaurants when the Yankees play certainly enhances the NYC economy. If Girardi's wearing of #28 becomes a conversation topic, I'd say that's a pretty good thing.

The last time I remember that a Yankee coach ever changed his number, it was Torre's bench coach, Don Zimmer, who wore #54 I think, for the number of years he'd been involved in baseball.

Well, I didn't know that he picked #27 for that reason. I never paid any attention to his number. If I had known that, my opinion would have changed then as opposed to now. A childish move, IMHO, but if the Yankee fans "enjoy" it, so be it.

BTW, the number-changing-thing has nothing to do with being committed to win. It is a red herring to equate the two. I did not criticize Joe for being committed to win, and it is pretty dumb to insinuate that I did.

Personally I think MGR's and coaches should be subjected to wearing numbers that players would normally not choose. For example, I hate that Torre wore No. 6 and the team probably won't be handing that out any time soon.

I'd like to see Jesus Montero wear No. 6, since players with the single digit usually hang around for awhile. :)

Did not insinuate any such thing. You said you liked him before and now you don't because He changed numbers? That's pretty childish imo and what's dumb is you starting a thread about it in a Yankee forum. But I can understand fans of teams with few championships not liking it. I mean...if Jerry Manuel changed his number to 3 I guess that wouldn't be quite as signifcant or carry much weight.
