I can't believe I'm saying this but I'm actuallly hoping the Yankees lose today. Why?

I want to have a exiciting World Series. Baseball has not had one of those in a long time. Whats sweeter than coming out on top after a hard fought time?

The series is no sure thing and I would think after 2004 you'd be a little hesitant to hope for something like that. It ain't over 'till it's over and I'll take a championship any way they can get it.

I couldn't disagree with you more.

Sure, I'd love to have the Yanks win at home, but you have them down and on the ropes. Put them away now if the chance is there. Don't let them come back to bite you.

Maybe if 2001 Game 7 and the 2004 ALCS never happened, the playoffs wouldn't have turned me into a nervous wreck and I might be open to the Yankees losing just so we could celebrate at home. Not the case anymore.

Agreed. 2004 still gives me a nightmare.

I can't believe you said it either... :)

The games don't have to be close for me. I want this to end tonight.

We're Yankees fan... we should be hoping for a long, exciting series since we've already won 26 championships :-P

Phillies fans and Rays fans and White Sox fans and Astros fans and Marlins fans are the ones that should be hoping to "get it any way they can"

I hope you lose today only because it will spare the Phillies fans the embarassment after booing the Yanks for winning on their field.

I had the same wish as you, and now feel a little bit the same way. I still think it'd be great for the Yankees to win the decisive game at home and finish up NYS's first year in style.

But now with Pettitte on short rest, I feel like Game 6 is really a toss-up, and if it goes to Game 7, it's anybody's series.

I just wish Girardi threw Gaudin out for the start today, and let Burnett pitch at home (where he seems to pitch better) on full rest. I like those chances for a Game 6 win much more than Pettitte on 3-days rest.

How did you think you were going to feel after a Yankee loss?

I was wondering the same thing? Who wish for dramatics when your team would be the team imploding if dramatics were to happen in a series?

I wouldn't consider losing 1 of 3 games in Philly as imploding, especially when facing Lee in that game.

It's not like he said he wants a walk-off HR in the 15th inning of Game 7.

I would, if there happen to be a Game 7.

The simple point is you shouldn't wish for dramatics if your teams has to lose a game. The notion is ridiculous in my eyes.

[QUOTE=The simple point is you shouldn't wish for dramatics if your teams has to lose a game. The notion is ridiculous in my eyes.[/QUOTE]

Exactly. Haven't there been enough dramatics already in this postseason? Let's see, off the top of my head:

-three wins in the Yankees' last at-bat (including two walkoffs)
-two game-tying HR's by A-Rod while 3 outs or less from a loss
-a six-run comeback against the Angels only to be nullified in the next half inning, as well as making WS Game 5 closer than it ever should have been after Burnett's implosion
-the endless umpiring saga
-the continuing Joe Girardi "I hope to God he knows something I don't, because this move makes zero sense" subplot
-the sudden breakdown of a bullpen that had been a major team strength down the stretch
-A-Rod and Sabathia answering much of their past postseason criticism

Now, I certainly love the postseason drama and anxiety; it's part of what keeps the Yankees so close to our hearts over the years. But at the same time I remember aging about 2 years during the 2001 Series (and I was not yet 16 at the time) and probably 3-4 more years in 2004.

I don't recall anyone saying anything bad about the 1999 postseason, that of the 11-1 Yankee run, or that that one didn't have enough drama.

You're not getting it. Of course if the series goes to extra innings in the 7th game, then we'd want the Yankees hit a walk-off...

But you're implying the OP is hoping for extreme drama. All he said was he kind of hoped the Yankees would lose game 5. Considering they already won 2 games in Philly, it's not that big of a deal.

If the Yankees can't win 1 of 2 games on their home field when it's all on the line, then the Phillies deserve the series anyway.

It's not like I would've been mad if the Yankees finished the series in Philly, it's just that winning it at home -- which they haven't done since '96 -- seems better. It'd be a fun finale for the first season at NYS.

And I'm pretty sure the OP's hopes have no real effect on the outcome of the games, so why does it matter what he hopes for?

Absolutely - how many times have the Yanks lost two in a row at home this year? Not many, I bet. I would say 3 times.

True...but to be devil's advocate...how many times have they played the champs at home this year? This ain't the Blue Jays.

Kind of funny if you look back at my post here from a few days ago. The Yankees finished off the '99 sweep of the Braves at home. Maybe that postseason really is somewhat forgotten after all.
