Please limit your ballot to a maximum of 15 names.

This is the thirty-fifth election for Our Mets Hall of Fame. Last time, we elected Edgardo Alfonzo and Roger McDowell.

For the original rules and specifications for this Hall of Fame, see:

http://www.baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=83894

New, additional rules:

When voting, consider the player’s Mets career only. If you choose to vote “none of the above,” you must explain your decision or your vote will not count.

It is not necessary that you explain your other votes, however it is still encouraged that you do so.

I feel forced to note that the Veteran's Committee is a VALID election process, as a player IS eligible past 15 elections, if they meet certain criteria.

If you vote in a manner deemed suspect and three or more other voters ask you to explain your vote, and you do not, your vote will be disqualified.

A couple notes:

The Pedro Martinez that is on the ballot is not the Pedro Martinez, the one that is a future Hall of Famer. The one that is on the ballot was a short-lived reliever for the Mets.

And...this is the last year of eligibility for George Foster and Doug Sisk.

The Case In Support of Bobby Jones;
It's long been established that this is a Met poll with a player to be compared against other Mets during their Met era and their place as a Met historicaly, in other words, their Metness.

In this context, Bobby J's case is a slam dunk.
Jones was the Met pitcher of the entire 1990's;

- Decade Leader Wins
- Decade Leader Innings
- Decade Leader Starts
- 2nd (tied) Shutouts
- 3rd For Strikeouts ( shade behind Cone for 2nd)

This was an eye opener. The fact he's the Met team leader in wins for the decade is enough for me. His big game excellence just strengthens his case. He's got my full, unwavering support.

No, the Mets have not always been a powerhouse. No the Mets have not always had a plethora of top tier studs. As we consider who excelled as a Met, Jones's numbers as stated cannot be ignored. Was he great compared to other ML'rs ? No. Was he great as a Met ? Yes. The numbers speak for themselves.
Bobby Jones deserves strong support and induction to the illustrious OMHOF.

My votes this round;

Lenny Dykstra - we have Agee, Wilson and who else ? Mazzili . . . and Dykstra was much better. a great Met and a great CF'r. time to put him in
Bobby Jones - see the infallibilty of my last post
Bob Ojeda - be nice to put him in with Nails and round out the '86 team. personaly, I have a soft spot for guys from the only 2 Championships
Rey Ordonez - the most amazing fielder I ever saw at Shea. he did some things there that just flat out made me jump up and cheer

New on the ballot:

Carlos Baerga
Mark Clark
Alvaro Espinoza
Matt Franco
Mike Fyhrie
Bernard Gilkey
Charlie Greene
Jason Hardtke
Lance Johnson
Bob MacDonald
Pedro Martinez
Brent Mayne
Alex Ochoa
Rey Ordonez
Roberto Petagine
Kevin Robertson
Andy Tomberlin
Ricky Trlicek
Derek Wallace
Paul Wilson

Things were really looking up this year. I really, really liked this team, the best buch of players at Shea since the '80's team was dismantled.

A few things on a few others;
Carlos Baerga - why is there such a vast history of good players comming here and looking like impersonators of their former selves ? he was a shadow of who he was, BUT the guy ALWAYS busted his butt and that's worth remembering with a thanks (but not a vote !)
Mark Clark - he was ok, but this team could have done great things if guys like this weren't mainstays of the rotation
Bernard Gilkey & Lance Johnson - they started out so terrific and it seemed like along with Hundly they would lead us back to the top of the division. ruined themselves and our hopes with acohole. such a waste
Alex Ochoa - remember he was going to be better than Willie Mays ? lol
Paul Wilson - the best of Generation K ! double lol

So clearly none of the above at this point...

I mean players eliminated in previous rounds out-class this entire crew - Ken Boswell, Ron Taylor and Wayne Garrett aren't in but should be.

PVNICK

Dykstra - I still think he's overglorified
Hundley
Lance Johnson - (I missed Gilkey his twin)
Magadan
McReynolds
Myers
Ojeda
Ordonez

I missed Bobby Jones. Most of these guys other than McReynolds were one or two year wonders and so may not get my vote again. Bonilla more or less is the 90s George Foster except the team imploded when he got there.

I voted for none of the above because none of these players performed at a significant enough level for a significant enough amount of time in my opinion.

To vote for Pat Zachery but not Ojeda or Jones is farcical and clearly an effort to skewer the vote total in my opinion.

As per the rules of this project, I formally challenge NJMetfan4life to fully explain these votes and support his argument with facts, figures or anecdotes if that is all he has. "I think Zachery was good" as he tried to get by with once before is no longer acceptable under the rules.

Welcome aboard, Lenny Dykstra.

Well, whaddaya know about that.

I think I now have a notion of how Adams felt when the First Continental Congress finally agreed on Independence.
