Root for the NL team even if it kills you. Maybe they'll return the favor one day.

Though I'm not a fan of either team, I don't really have this deep seeded hatred towards the Yankees as many Mets fans do, but I really hate the Phillies. The Phillies are the Mets real rivals, just as the Red Sox are the Yankees real rivals.

The Yankees winning the WS won't bother me that much. We all know who the Yankees are. They are the biggest spenders and the most winningest franchise in all of baseball... so them winning another WS title will not be news to me nor will it really bother me that much (unless it was against the Mets). It may bother people that they are pretty arrogant about winning so many WS titles, but the Yankees have kind of earned that right whether we like it or not. If anything, with all the money they spend, they outta be winning that much.

The Phillies on the other hand, are the division rivals to the Mets. Everything that was expected of the Mets to accomplish, was instead accomplished by the Phillies. Their fanbase is also known to be rather classless and rude, and the thought of them boasting about winning another WS and coming over to Citi Field and singing "We Are The Champions" for another season is worse then anything we would have to hear from Yankee fans IMO.

With a Phils/Yanks WS imminent, I'm rooting for the Phillies to lose.

Excellent post !!!

Last year I rooted for Philly vs Tampa because I was tired of people saying the NL east was a joke. Besides, Tampa had few real fans all season and at least Philly fans show up. Then we all heard news stories of how Tampa fans, even teh player's wives, were disrespected at the WS in Philly.

I went to NYS to see the Mets the day after the dropped pop up, and NYY fans either kidded me good naturedly, or expressed empathy.
I went to Citi on 1969 nite, and Phillie fans were involved in fights all over the park that game.

NYY fans are used to winning. Philly fans are not.

Either club winning should put added pressure on the Mets to do something for their fans. And I have said it ad nauseum, but if the Phillies win back to back, no way should Mets tickets be so much more expensive than CBP.

Easy decision here. Rooting for the Phillies. Not even a question. Every baseball fan should be rooting for the Phillies. They've built this team the way that every fan wants their team built. Home grown talent. Smart trades. Plus, this is a clutch team. As others have said, they play the game the way that I'd like my favorite team to play.

Have to root for the Phillies here, and is it really so bad, I mean don't think I could stand a week or two of blather about Torre.

NO!!! The Yankees deserve it because their front office is smarter, and has more huevos than the Mets front office. The Phillies deserve it because the have the phillosophy of sticking with home grown talent. End of story. Jealousy is the bottom line.

GO PHILS !!

I don't begrudge this team anything, they're dam good and I'm happy for thier fans.

Frankly, I was a bit taken back by the subdued celebration on the field last night. We've seen Jose Reyes celebrate in a much larger way for far, far smaller victories. I like them.

Question to all Mets fans here who are rooting for the Philies. Why? The Phillies fans are probably the worst fan base in all of baseball. That's kind of a universal fact by now. They are foul-mouthed people, don't know how to act civilized, won't hesitate to throw beer at a 5 yr. old girl if she's wearing a Mets shirt in CBP. They're just trash. Even Yankee fans aren't as bad. The fans are the reason why I hate the Phillies so much. Why do you guys want to side with them?

Duh. Because we hate the Yank$. If we sided with Stalin to win WWII, then I can certainly stomach rooting a few days for the Phils to crush the Yank$.

maybe you guys are familiar with this website: http://faithandfear.blogharbor.com/blog/_archives/2009/10/21/4358122.html#comments

This is a post I made in response to a "suggestion" that it would be "OK" to root for the Phillies.

I visit the site regularly. In fact it's a bookmark on my firefox toolbar right between Craigslist and ESPN. It's taken me a day to write this so it (hopefully) won't come off as a screed. I don't really agree with (and maybe this is more directed at Greg) a lot of the view points on the site...The treacly hatred of the Yankees (when the Mets play the Yankees 7 times out of 15 years in the WS then we will have a real rivalry with them not the contrived rivalry that bud has "created" through interleague), the "love" of a Giants team that deserted the city, the use of 42 on your shirts (isn't it awesome that the signature section of the Mets new ballpark is dedicated to a man who never wore their uniform for even a single day. Awesome. Awesome, Awesome). I usually post anonymously, but today I won't. I feel this strongly (and regularly post at baseball fever as "MSUlaxer27").

Here goes: I'm not one to tell anybody how to define their fandom. You like who you like, you follow who you follow. However, if you even consider for a second rooting for the Phillies, no matter who they play in the WS...turn in your Mets hat. I can not even articulate how much I hate the Phillies...doesn't matter if they are good or bad. They are always ugly. The city they play in is a pit. Their fans are quite frankly the worst in the nation (I've worn a bears jersey to a lions/bears game and sat in the upper deck at the silverdome on Thanksgiving (just because), I've worn an Islanders jersey in the blue seats and survived...I won't even consider wearing any Mets paraphernalia in the city of Philadelphia, ever).

We were better than them in 2007 for sure (Thanks Tommy! Glad we paid you all that money to win a big game!) We probably were better than them last year...(we beat them 11 of the 18 times we faced them. Thanks bullpen!)

Seriously. if you consider rooting for the Phillies...it doesn't make you a bad human being. This is just sports. But I seriously will question your Met bonifides for the rest of my life. The Yankees suck to be sure but they still play in NYC (in, no matter how much bud would like us to forget it, another LEAGUE). Philadelphia is Philadelphia...a dirty, ugly city full of angry people who have a chip on their shoulders and hate (wait) HATE New York. I will never, never , NEVER, ever root for Philadelphia in anything.

I know you love the Mets. I don't doubt that for a second. Please make the right choice.

Just in case my animosity doesn't come across strong enough (and because I know that the "nannies" here will watch and flag me...I've been warned/flagged for referring to a word in another post (not using it) that rhymes with "stitching" that was used in an acceptable usage from Websters):

PH...this part rhymes with the last three letters in the name of an aquatic avian with webbed feet (hope that didn't hurt your delicate sensitivities, nannies) the Phillies. Phorever.

LOL. Still clinging to the idea that the Mets were "better" than the Phillies even though they won the division. So irrelevant.

I would really much prefer to root for the Cloverfield Beast to make a surprise appearence in Philly for Game 3!

I'm sure Yukkee fans wanted to see both the Red Sox and Mets get swept in the '86 series. Can we Mets fans have that same wish now? That is assuming that the Angels don't come all the way back from down 3-1 in the ALCS.

In '86 most Yankee fans rooted for the Mets to beat the Red Sox. Yankee fans would never root for their division rivals. Just as the Mets should never root for the Phillies.

Yes, yes, yes ! Thank you for raising this. More than irrelevant though, it is totaly obnoxious. It's worth it to root for the Phils to repeat to finally put an end to this bs. Hello Met fans who believe this canard, it's NOT TRUE. The better team won.

I rooted for the Phillies in 1993 primarily because of Lenny. Last year wanted to see the Rays win it all. This year I am rooting for the Yankees primarily in memory of my Father In Law who just passed away this past Saturday. Go Yankees. :crossfingers:

I am rooting for a stash of Needles to be found in the Yankees Locker oom in Philly

A-Rod , Pettite and Derek Jeter will be caught and the Yankees forced to Forfeit the series, In the ensuing confusion Philly Fans Storm the field ripping up Citzens Bank Ballpark making it unusable for play

Then the Phillies will be forced to Forfeit the series, creating a double forfeit and they BOTH lose
