Hi everyone,
I post alot in the Ballparks forum, and today my gf's father emailed me two old cards that he had found, he said both were blank on the back. I have a decent card collection myself, but I have never seen anything like these. Any help on identifying them or even getting an approximate value on them would be greatly apprciated. And I apologize for the picture, he isnt that good with computers and sent them in a word document.

Great cards to have. Those look like the cards from the 1923 W515-1 set.

I have that Ruth. Too bad that one is, like mine, cut from the other card on the strip, which was Ty Cobb.

They are 1921 W551's...... and yes Authentic
10 cards in the set (1 strip of 10), very common for the Era, Ive owned many of them, the Ruth in that condition sells for about $200-$300, the Pipp about $15-$20.
In the 1980s there were quite a few full strips that were cut up into 2 card panels (Cobb and Ruth were next to each other and sometimes found slabbed together).

I have a Ruth that looks like it would be from that set, it lists him as a PITCHER for the YANKEES.
Also have Pipp, Lazerri, Huggins, and Coombs in the same set or something real similar. They are super neat.

W551's dont have the players positions.
The only "W" cards that lists Ruth as a pitcher are 2 sets from the W516 group (1920).
The W516-1-2 will show Ruth as a righty pitcher (throwing right handed, reversed negative). The W516-2-2 shows Ruth as a lefty. Both have values in the same range as the W551's

I'm guessing these are tobacco cards right? If so, which tobacco company did they come from and why isn't there any logos on the backs? If all 10 cards were still together on the original strip, who much would that be worth today? I'm sure it's very rare.

No, Not Tobacco cards (Tobacco cards are a bit earlier).
These cards are called "Strip Cards" and were mainly issued in the 1920-1931 era, In the ACC (American Card Catalog) they are listed under "W". "W" Strip cards were usually issued in strips of 5-10 or sometimes in sheets and sold in candy stores.
Rarely these cards will be found with the normal blank backs having stamped advertising from a company like a candy or ice cream company, but these were usually stamped after the company obtained the strips to use with their product.
The first Fleer Baseball Cards...1923.... very rare! (below)
