Hey everyone, i've been thinking about starting to send out some ttm requests but had a few questions before getting started. When it come to writing a note to a player how should i go about it? For example do you hand write them or type them? If you hand write then what type of paper do you use and how do you start it such as Mr. Pujols? I know that might be some stupid questions but i would rather do it right the first time lol.
Also i notice most players can be reached at the stadiums address, are there any other sites that give other addresses players may be reached at?
Thanks agains and any other info that i didn't mention would be great!

Hand write them. I used lined loose leaf. Start it Dear Mr. Pujols. Introduce yourself. Then just be friendly. I usually say how much I love the game and how I want to get a job
in a front office when I am out of school. Then politely ask them to sign you item and thank them. Always use a self addressed stamped envelope too.

Basically what he said. But you dont have to include the job part, make sure you change that to something you're interested in or just something personal.

I always try to talk about an experience I have had. It might be watching that player in person or on tv. Sometimes I talk about their team or something that has happened with his team. I have sent to players who have been on teams where a pitcher has thrown a no hitter and mentioned how it must have been neat to been a part of that.
I also mention that I am a collector of baseball autographs and a huge baseball fan.
Edit: Woohoo! 500th post.

Your going to love TTM once you start to get returns. I've been doing this for about 1 1/2 yrs now and I wish I had started it sooner. Just have some patience.
Another option would be Sportscollectors.net as a resource for address.
Its by subscription per year and it costs $14.99 and you get All Sports.
I never did by any of the books and I'm doing well with my returns
Good Luck and have fun!!!

What are the odds of big name players signing anything? I'm not looking to build a massive collection, just players around the league I like - Jeter, Ichiro, etc.
Waste of time?

Those two that you named?? Yep, a waste of time. A general question such as who signs is very difficult to answer. Each player has their own signing habits and these habits can change over time. For example, Vlad Guerrero has a history of not signing at all. Yet, while on the DL recently, there were returns coming back from him. That has since stopped now that he is back playing again.

The advantage of the sportscollectors.net site mentioned above is that it it shows you who signs and who doesn't...and shows both total and recent attempts to players. I spent $14.99, and saved that much in stamps the first week I had the site.
Also, there is a "Does he sign" thread on this board...if you have a name or two you're wondering about, post there and someone will usually help you out.

For my first 8-10 months I hand wrote requests, but then I decided to type them out. Once you get a basic template down and add whatever else you would like to the letter typing speeds up the process. I can get 5-6 ready to go in 2 hours, but only 3 if I hand wrote them. Just my take.
