Pedro is going to back in the majors on Wednesday. Moyer was told he was going to the bullpen. I'm feeling pretty good about this move mainly because of the quality of the two men involved. Obviously above and beyond anything else, the only way Pedro stays in the rotation is for him to perform well. But I think the addition of Pedro not only provides better quality at his spot in the rotation, but a guy that has played a season after winning a World Series so I'm sure he'll be able to provide some insight on how to stay focused on the now as opposed to still enjoying the past. Pedro is a professional but he brings a laid back attitude along with him that will surely take a little of the edge off of the pressure that comes with being World Champion. Moyer is a pro himself and handled everything as such, according to the Phillies website. I seriously doubt he is going to be valuable out of the pen though.

If things go well Pedro could turn out to be a league average pitcher, but stands a real chance of being John Smoltz redux.

Obviously the upside of Pedro is not going to be the Cy Young Pedro at all, but he is four years younger than John Smoltz and John Smoltz didn't strike out 11 in his last rehab start prior to getting a shot in the rotation.

If he's better than Moyer's been this season, putting him in the rotation helps the team--and if he's Smoltz-like, he won't get many chances. I love Moyer, but when the bar is set at such a level (subpar is the best word I can come up with), it's not an Olympian feat to surpass it.

I agree as far as the expectations of Pedro not being that high, but that makes it all the more reasonable that he can fulfill the Phillies expectations.

Personally I think they should be looking for Pedro to maybe be the new closer, after Lidge blew another one tonight.

What about Myers when he comes back? He was pretty good in 07
Or Moyer? :laugh:nod:

Wow I think you guys (Phillies) are very lucky to have Pedro on your staff. While I may be biased by having the honor to root for him in his glory sox days I would never bet against him. He is with you for the post season run anything extra is icing on the cake. He still has something to prove. He has always played with a chip on his shoulder, and that just wait I'll show you attitude. I love the make up of your team, and don't be shocked if Pedro helps bring another ring to your team. I will be watching, and cheering loudly tonight as he (hopefully... or I am sure I will get blasted on here tomorrow) shows all of baseball he still has just enough to get big league hitters out. :crossfingers:

For his sake, maybe the lay-off did him some good.

I know. To me he just looks different. He had nothing to prove with the Mets because they gave him the world. It was no secret he was injured when he left Boston, and it showed in his game. He is very prideful, and playing for little. Let's just hope after a month or so I can say I told you so. Like others have said his presence in the locker room alone is worth his salary.

Moyer...hmm that would be intriguing :crazy. Ya, I keep forgetting Myers is probably going to be back before the end of the year. If Lidge can't get it done, he's definitely my first choice. Although we have enough pitching right now to go by committee. You could have Myers, Pedro, JC, Ryan, even Clay Condrey when he comes back fill the closer role on a situational basis. Maybe Lidgey needs to do some middle relief and get his mechanics figured out.

I think the people who watched the game will be more impressed than the people who read the stat line. Giving up 3 runs in 5 IP's while allowing 7 hits is nothing to write home about. On the other hand his velocity and location seemed very good and he did have 5 K's.

Pedro's location was great sometimes, and not so good others. His velocity was fine. He looked mostly like a very good pitcher with some rust on him last night.

Pedro did a good job last night. He really only had one bad inning. Coming off the extra inning win on Ben Francisco's game-winning home run, Tuesday and Pedro's laugher last night and another strong performance by Cliff Lee this afternoon, they've won three in a row and maybe this could start a hot streak, after they were swept by the Marlins last wekend.
Pedro has a very positive personality and it appears to be rubbing off on the rest of the team.

Wow..I really enjoyed watching Pedro on the bump last night. He seems to have brought a quiet confidence to the team. What a steal, and if he keeps this up the Phillies will be getting sized for rings very soon. Thank you to the front office for giving him a second chance...or was that a third chance?

Solid 6 2/3 for Pedro tonight.
