BBF VC Progressive HoF Negro League Committee: 1957 Election

Please Read
Below is a master list of players who have spent time in various Negro Leagues and players who played in major or minor leagues before the color line was enforced. All players on the list ceased play in 1947. Exceptions are being age 45 by 1957 or having died between 1952 and 1957, waiving the five-year wait. There are some newcomers to the ballot that were mistakenly omitted from the 1952 ballot that still deserve consideration.You can vote for anyone on the final ballot below and you can vote for up to two write in candidates. Anyone can comment, but only ballots from the VC will be counted in the election. The election concludes at the close of the regular election, which is August 14 at 12:53 PM EDT.

For the 1962 Negro Leagues Players VC election, those eligible are:

1. Candidates who received at least 2 votes in the 1957 election;
2. Write-in candidates who received at least 50% of the vote;
3. Any newly eligible players who retired from play in 1957 and did not have enough significant Major or Minor League experience between 1957 and 1962 to warrant inclusion on the player's ballot.
4. Candidates who are at least age 45 at some point before 1962; and
5. Players who died any time between 1957 and 1962, thereby waiving their five-year wait.

Another order of business for this election will be to trim the general VC list and create a special committee of twelve members for the Negro League Players election.

Did you accidentally miss Ray Brown? if not, what is he missing that Radcliffe, Johnson and Taylor have? He is on all but one other ballot listed so far with the exception of yours and is one of the best pitchers ever to have played in the NeL.

This is a friendly reminder to vote. Keep in mind that I am considering forming a separate committee for the Negro League elections. First dibs go to VC members who voted here. I'd like to get at least 12 members here (like for the contributor's ballot).

As far as 1962 eligibility, the list of first time eligible candidates is going to shrink. We're mostly dealing with minor league talent ten years after integration, though some holdovers who did not have enough time in MLB, but enough time in the Negro Leagues combined with MLB numbers, still exist (see Monte Irvin).

Besides for Monte Irvin, we also have a very notable player in Bus Clarkson next election (and possibly a few others):

IMO, we will not be fully finished with the NeL end of this project until sometime in the mid-late 1970s.

Good job, Ace. It worked out okay since nobody else would have been elected if we had a 12th voter anyway.

NOW

Who was the stroonce who didn't vote for Paige?

How dare you commit such an atrocity?

It's an understandable mistake. I had to edit him in, as I missed him the first time through, as well. I try to check everyone's ballots, too, just to be safe.

Sorry about that. I was away for ten days except one internet session. I would have voted for Paige, Brown, and Foster --and not for Day. It's good to see that no single ballot would have made a difference in either direction. It's interesting to see how pitchers dominate the ballot at this stage.
