I was surprised that when Victor Martinez was traded that newly- acquired, ex-Phillies catcher, Lou Marson wasn't promoted straight to the majors. He's still at AAA Columbus and ironically his first few games since being traded have all been against his former Lehigh Valley teammates in Allentown. It seems like Marson, Carlos Carrasco and Jason Donald didn't have to pack up immediately, but just needed to switch from the home to the visitors's clubhouse.
Instead of Marson getting the call, Wyatt Toregas was recalled to make his major leagues debut with The Tribe this weekend. Who is the front runner for Cleveland's catching job on a long-term basis? You have the two above-mentioned prospects, Marson and Toregas and
you also have Kelly Shoppach, but I'll disqualify Chris
Gimenez, who seems to be more of a first baseman, who can catch occasionally. Are there any outstanding Cleveland catching prospects at Double A or below who might be heir to the job? Who do Cleveland fans see as winning the competition for the regular catchhing job, eventually?

Supposedly, Carlos Santana (no,not the musician) is the man. He was acquired last year in that round of trades and is very highly regarded. I've read and heard that his bat is ready now, but the position work needs work. Let's hope he works out. In the meantime Chris Gimenez has had some good games and Wyatt Toregas has been called up. It's too early to tell on him. Shoppach has regressed from the guy we saw the last two years.
