Count me as one of the people that feel this award was a lame attempt at making up for not inducting Buck in 2006 while he was still living, but if they decide to actually continue to give it out I think someone who deserves the award, without question, is the Red Sox Johnny Pesky. Along with a great (albeit short) playing career he has been involved with the Sox as a manager and coach continuously since 1969. He was also their manager 1963 and '64. Johnny turns 90 this September and should be recognized before he goes (hopefully that's a long way away).

Couldn't agree more. I would like to see Pesky receive some kind of recognition for his contributions to the game if they can't get their acts together and elect him as a player (which with war credit, he deserves, IMO) while he is still alive.

Another excellent candidate would be Lefty O'Doul, who has a marginal HOF case as a player, but who also played a huge role in the development of major league baseball on the West Coast, and the onset of professional baseball in Japan.

I'd just as soon give it to the living candidate, though; Pesky is richly deserving of recognition.
