Being as the Blue Jays are being ridiculous about who they want from the Phillies for Roy Halladay, I'd love to see the Phillies acquire Cliff Lee. What prospects or young players would Tribe fans want from the Phillies for him?
I'd be willing to part with Kyle Drabek, Carlos Carrasco, Jason Donald and Dominic Brown from our farm.

I have been a die hard tribe fan for 30 years now......But I swear that I will disown them for the rest of my life if they trade Cliff Lee.

I hate seeing teams year after year losing their stars because they can't afford them. It sucks for the game and the the fans.

A trade of their star pitcher (Halladay/Toronto or Lee/Cleveland) would be very unpopular among the fans of either of those teams. Besides the fact that each has enjoyed excellent careers, each has been with their respective team for their entire careers. As one poster indicated, I can see fans "Disowning" the team that trades away their long-time star. Management would lose even more credibility if the star was traded to a division rival as both the Yankees and Red Sox have expressed interest in Halladay.
As a Phillies fan, I also would feel that I had no confidence in first-year General Manager, Ruben Amaro Jr. if he dealt for one of these star pitchers and gave up way too much of the Phillies organization's best minor league talent away in return.
Calling the shots is no easy job.

This could be a whole thread by itself. In my opinion, baseball is too much of a business instead of a game anymore. At some point owners seemed to stop caring about winning and fans and started caring more about their own pocket and making more and more money. It really sucks, but that's how it is now-a-days. Everything at the ball park is way too expensive to begin with, let alone with the way the economy is and how tight everyone has to be with money these days.
If the owner spent a little more money up front, kept the teams stars together and got a couple more good free agents they would be more likely to win, correct? Now if they did that and started winning and going to the playoffs more consistantly, they would gain a bigger fan base and start having a lot more people come to the park to see the team. As they get better and more popular, they would be on national TV more often and getting more revenue from all of that. An old saying sums all that up, "You have to spend money to make money". Seems like a lot of teams don't work on that logic. Their logic seems to be, we aren't going to win this year so lets dump all of our good (or highest paid) players since no one is coming to the park. Well, what happens next season? You still have a crappy team and still no one will come to see them.
Sorry for the rant

Seems like we gave up less than I thought it would cost for Lee - Carrasco, Jason Knapp, Donald and Lou Marson.
When are the Indians gonna make a GOOD trade? This is the second year in a row we traded our Cy Young winner.
I just hope we get Halladay. We really need a good pitcher.

The Phillies went for a short-term boost in picking up Lee. I think Cleveland got the better end of this deal. Some of the players in that package that Cleveland got will produce sooner than others but all are going to have some success in the majors.

Do you seriously think the Indians had even the most remote chance of re-signing Sabathia?
