In my latest entry on my website "Baseball Happenings", I discuss the merits of Edgar Martinez' candidacy for the Hall of Fame. Feel free to check out the site and discuss the article.

I think he deserves to get in, and may get in, but to the voters, he's not different that Jim Rice (they have little regard for on-base percentage, and they will forget about his time at third base).
I don't think it will be first year.

I say give Edgar 3-4 years and he'll get in.

This year will be especially tough for Edgar only because the top two new candidates, Alomar and Larkin were excellent GG fielders. Edgar still doesnt cut it for my HOF. The combo of his full time DH duties and relatively low counting #s make him a no for me.

Edgar is enormously popular with the media. There's no doubt Edgar's rate stats are HoF caliber. The counting numbers are a little shaky. I am on the fence about him.

I agree. I think at this point Todd Helton is way more deserving. Coors cancels out the full-time DH and Helton is no slouch at first. Even then, Helton is still barely on the outside looking in to this point.

First ballot, no way. But he will get his day sometime in the future.

No, but it should be. Instead, it'll be Thomas' first year on the ballot.
