i have to do a better job of this....i dvr'd a short clip of Kevin Long talking about this as well. He says the stride should be no longer then 12 inches because if you get too far out you are leaving your power. I am not quoting him but it wasn't something along those lines. He was basically stressing the fact that you need to let the ball get deeper and trust your hands and body to be fast enough to still hit the ball.

I don't teach a long stride but then neither would I take one away from a kid who was killing good pitching. Long stride didn't seem to hurt this guy's power. http://www.theswearingens.com/mick/swing.htm Of course "too far out" is a variable term. I guess if Mick had strode even farther than this he would have been too far out.
Yes, you need to let the ball come deep. The more difference in depth of contact point between where you hit the inside strike vs the outside strike the more advantage to the pitcher who can hit spots and change speeds. To do this you need mechanics that create whip/uncock the wrists deeper in the zone. For a kid with some push disconnect, bat drag or some other connection problems, this is not an option until they fix the problem.

Mark, well said (referring to the bolded portion above).

FFS, what are your thoughts of the statement made "he turns around the center?" I realize your point was letting it get deep and hips.

Once the frontside blocks, and forward movement has been successfully blocked, the front hip rotates rearward while the back hip rotates forward. See Jack Mankin's clip below.

That would vary with pitch location. Not so much on the low outside strike.
