Ginger Beaumont had a short, but productive, career. He played 12 seasons, hitting .311 with 254 stolen bases and an OPS+ of 123. He led the league in hits four times, including three times in a row. Further, he led the league in games once, plate appearances twice, at-bats twice, runs once, batting average once, singles four times and total bases once. He has pretty good black ink, only five off the Hall of Fame average.
Statistically, he is similar to one Hall of Famer: Elmer Flick. The other players he is similar to are Steve Brodie, Chick Stahl, Duff Cooley, Cy Seymour, Mickey Rivers, Matty Alou, Pete Fox, Jack Tobin and Lance Johnson.
The Baseball Page ranks him as the 42nd best center fielder of all time. He received votes for the Hall of Fame three times.
What do you think about Ginger Beaumont? Do you think he belongs in the Hall?

No, his peak just wasn't good enough for a short career guy. Very good player, though.

He was at the top of the league for a bit but with a century of players that have had a few years at theat level I just can't see it.

I say maybe. He's similar to Earle Combs.
Perhaps a more recent equivalent would be Matty Alou.

I'll give you a maybe. But at the same time, I wonder if he was more valuable than his contemporary Roy Thomas?

Had some good seasons, but definitely not a HOFer. There are a number of more modern CFers who are not in and are much better than Beaumont. He had some very good seasons but not nearly good enough for such a short career guy to be a HOFer.

Candy Cummings?
And no, Beaumont is not a Hall of Famer.

--I think Candy Cummings makes a better film star than live performer:hide:. I hear Ginger Beaumont and Candy LaChance did tour together in the offseason, but I'm not sure the story is suitable for a family site:blush:.
Didn't he have the most hits in the first decade of the 20th Century? He has some sort of record like that to his credit...

Best stripper name in the Baseball Encyclopedia.
Personally I would have picked Candy Cummings, or Sugar Cain or Honey Barnes.

It's been fun with the stripper names thing, but I think it's time to end that little sidelight. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
