Okay buddy I've already told you more than once to stop making these threads. They were my idea and you have decided to add on to them. Now I am very pissed off.

I voted for Wayne, er, Chipper Jones, as A-Rod played SS for the first part, yes? If'n I'm wrong, then please reverse my vote. Chipper is good, but not in A-Rod's class. Few are.

Arod is much better. Better defender and also better hitter when he is healthy.

Well since the others were not closed down by the mods i presume they are ok with it, so how about you let it go? Who starts a thread really doesnt interest me as much as the content and results.
Id say Arod just about beats chipper for the decade even with chippers ~100 more games at 3B over the last 9 1/2 seasons but its pretty close.

Arod has played 793 games as 3B from 2004 onwards. Chipper has had 902 games from 2000 onwards, so the gap isnt as big as it might first appear (only 13%)

You need to start beating him to the punch if you don't want him to take thise project over.

I went with Chipper Jones.
I think the two are very close, offensively speaking. For the decade:
Jones - .315/.416/.556/.972, 149 OPS+
A-Rod - .303/.401/.588/.989, 154 OPS+
I believe the five point difference in OPS+ can be accounted for in Rodriguez playing in better hitter's parks in the American League and his use of PEDs. I don't heavily discount for PEDs, so I think that this is reasonable.
Rodriguez is probably better defensively, as well, and has probably been better as a whole this decade because of that. However, this is a question of third basemen, and I feel that Rodriguez's four seasons at shortstop should count against him a bit. That may be unfair, but I think it's reasonable, as well.

Aaron Boone? Adrian Betlre? Eric Chavez?
I know you probably need to fiil out the list, but Aaron Boone-- come on now

Alex or Chipper should be the only options.

Hasn't Eric Chavez been on the DL for about half the decade?
I went with Chipper, even though I hate that nickname. A-Rod did it dirty, I'm assuming Jones is clean until I see evidence to the contrary.

Sure, now he is. But the difference is Chipper is still a great player, but he is not in his prime like he was in the early part of the decade. A-Rod is in his prime now. Even still, I would go with A-Rod over Chipper. Plus, A-rod was still a shortstop so I'm not sure how that works.
Honestly, in the early part of the decade, there was Chipper and then there was everybody else at third. He was the man.

If we only consider Jones and Rodriguez for their time at third, the numbers look (roughly) like this:
A-Rod - .299/.401/.568/.969, 152 OPS+ in 3026 at-bats
Jones - .314/.414/.563/.977, 151 OPS+ in 3569 at-bats
Rodriguez's numbers are those for his tenure with the Yankees, Jones' numbers exclude 2002-2003, when he was primarily a LF'er. As for defense over that time:
A-Rod - 47 FRAR, -1.1 UZR/150
Jones - 76 FRAR, -3.6 UZR/150
Keep in mind UZR data is only available from 2004 forward.
Neither is stellar defensively. Some defensive metrics gauge Jones as among the worst fielding third basemen ever, but this doesn't seem to be accounted for in FRAR, UZR, or +/-. Rodriguez has a slight edge in UZR/150, Jones has a larger edge in FRAR, and I don't have the +/- data in front of me.
On the whole, though, I would say Jones has been the better third baseman this decade. I would take his advantage in OBP over Rodriguez's advantage in SLG, and Jones (knock on wood) hasn't been implicated for PEDs.
The raw numbers, though, are very close.

I know, I was thinking the same thing. Aaron Boone has no business even being an option.

Not that any of these guys would get a vote, but I have to believe that Scott rolen, Melvin Mora, Pedro Feliz, or Joe Crede Would be a better option than Aaron F---n Boone. Heck, until the midway point of last season Miguel Cabrera was a thirdbasman, I bet he might get a vote--I didn't see him on the First Base "Decade Poll". I'd imagine a player of his caliber should be on one of these polls, right??

even though I didn't vote for him, how underrated is Adrian Beltre? What kills him are the A-Rods, Jones, Wrights of the world and that one amazing season where he hit 48 HR's. Compared to that he has underachieved...but take that season out and he is a solid hitting 3B with possibly one of, if not the best gloves at the corner.

You have right about Chavez. He has better numbers then Boone.
It was my fault.

He had time to post another poll, and did not very quickly. You waited, he did not make a new poll, so you did.
This was Francouerstein's idea, true. But he needs to put these out more rapidly or announce how often he will do them. Since he did not . . .

Think of it as a boxing reference. A boxer who gets to his opponent faster than his opponent gets to him has an advantage.
