Pujols for his offense
(yeah, I know Cardinals fans his defense is better than we all think.)

1B is an offensive position. And Pujols is a solid defender too.
Not as good as Youkilis or Texeira, but solid and of course his hitting is lightyears above anyone since Barry Bonds retired.

In 50 years, will people say...
"Albert Pujols was one of the best offensive players of the early 2000's."
or
"Albert Pujols was a solid defensive player in the early 2000's."

There is no way in hell it's anyone other than Pujols.
Pujols is in a league of his own here.

They'lll say he was the best offensive player in his time AND a Gold Glover. They'll say he was one of the top 5 ever to play the game, period.

Pujols could have started in 2004 and he'd still be the best.

all of this info comes from the fielding bible (http://www.fieldingbible.com/)
in 2006 Pujols was +19 in fielding which led the league (http://www.billjamesonline.net/fieldingbible/charts/2006plus-minus.gif)
In 2007 he was +37...which led the league (http://www.billjamesonline.net/fieldingbible/charts/leaders1-07.gif)
and in 2008 he was +20 which was second in the league (http://www.billjamesonline.net/fieldingbible/charts/leaders1-08.gif)
so he is not just better than you might think, he is an elite defender.

It is unforunate that you cannot look at how many Gold Gloves one has in order to tell who is a better fielder. The Gold Glove, like most other awards given out in MLB, is about getting votes and not the stats themselves.

Pujols by a mile. After that pick one of Helton, Giambi, Thome or Delgado.

I'm surprised nobody said Ryan Howard.

I noticed that soembody voted for Lance Berkman. While I think that he is a very good player and a wonderful hitter, LB has played 1B for 2 1/2 years.

Ok, so look at The Fielding Bible numbers posted right above your post. The dude is an elite defender, worthy of more Gold Gloves than he has actually won.

Not enough seasons under his belt. Pujols demolishes Howard here.
Come back in 10 years to see if Ryan made the best of 2010-2019 list. :)

Zagi-cro let me make the topics before. It pisses me off that I started the all-decade team and you continue it without my permission...

Simmer down, this one is obviously the easiest of the lists/polls.
Francouerstein, we know we can count on you for the ones that involve some thought!

Not enough seasons under his belt? Jeff Bagwell is on this poll-- I'm pretty sure that Howard has played just about as many seasons this decade as a healthy Bagwell (within one at least)

I won't argue with you there... Still, Howard has more to prove to be on Bagwell's level. Regardless, Pujols is clearly the man.

Fair point, but with Giambi and Thome on this list (especially Giambi), shouldn't David Ortiz be on this list?
I'm sue Pujols would still run away with it, but Ortiz might make the runner-up a little more interesting

There's Pujols, then there's everybody else. Don't know why we're even discussing this.

The poll allows for two. I guess this poll was meant for Linus Van Pelt, who does remember who finished second.

Helton deserves some love. Sure, he plays at Coors, but in his prime he was one of the best hitters for average and OBP since Ted Williams and was a match for Pujols before he started to decline and get old..

Derrek Lee is probably a victim of his current status.
If this poll was being held in 2006, he'd probably get a few more votes than 0.
