View Full Version : Ted Williams and the Hall of Fame
If Ted Williams would have retired after the 1948 season and is not given credit for time spent in WWII outside of letting that count towards the Hall's 10 year rule. Should he make the HoF and if yes where would he rank?
here are his stats

Assuming he gets the ten year rule waived like you said, he's a HOFer in my book. By 1948, he had already hit .400 and won two Triple Crowns.

On the percentages sure, but back then that wasn't exactly available. I would assume that short career would work against him. What struck me was how the mighty have fallen. Frank Thomas is #3 with an insane OPS+ of 182 bested only by Ruth and Ted. Hard to remember that now and conjure up that image of Frank Thomas right up there with the very best that ever played.

He wouldn't rank so highly, because he'd lose so many productive years, but IMHO, he'd still have the main qualifications of, oh, George Sisler, for instance. That's enough, but not by anywhere near the margins TW attained. Of course, I give a lot of weight to career value, more than most, it seems.

With that astronomical peak value he would be a solid HoFer, but he wouldn't be inner tier.
