Yes, I have emerged from my one-month suspension. Anyway, has anyone here been following Chris Davis and his strikeout capibility? He reached 100 last night. The single-season record is 204, so he is on pace to shatter that. The Rangers have played 67 games this year, so he is on pace for 242 strikeouts. His batting average is only .196, though, so hopefully he can pick it up and manage to stay in the MLB and K his way into history. Also Mark Reynolds, who set the record last year, has 97 so far this year. The Diamondbacks have played 69 games so far, so he is on pace for 228 strikeouts. Use to this thread to keep track of there pace and see if they can break the record.

wow, I have just looked at the stats. I don't think he will break the record if he keeps hitting like he is because I doubt he will stay in the bigs that long.

I really cant see him staying in the lineup long enough to hit 200K's. Really, it shows me that down in Texas, they are either in very short supply of patient hitters or their idea of how to win games is "if you can hit above .200 and try to get a home run on every pitch thats good enough for us."

Howard wont like being only in 4th in the K's leaderboard. I expect him to strike out every other at bat until he's fighting for the lead!

Not true at all. He's the best defensive 1B they have, and Blalock is better for the defense at DH with Young shifted to 3rd. At some point, I feel they are going to send Davis down and bring up Smoak, though he has dealt with some injury problems at AAA.

Isn't Smoak a hacker too? I would think having him or Davis start would be about a wash as far as overall production is concerned.

I've been following Davis's strikeouts ever since reading this article (http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/move-over-howard-and-reynolds).

33BB's and 31K's in 43 games at AA and 2 games in the AZL. Not too high of a K rate.

Hard to say right now if he can translate his .338/.454./.561 line at the ML level, but given the way Davis his hitting, darn near anything is an upgrade. Eventually Smoak is going to take over for good there.

Aside from Smoak on a current rehab stint in the AZL and never playing above AA, and Blalock being better as a DH for them; I'm wondering if the Rangers are giving Davis time to turn it around at the ML level in hopes that they can flip him for Nick Johnson. Sending him down would hurt his trade value, though he's doing a pretty good job of killing it himself.

Smoak? That sounds very familiar. Since I'm entirely too lazy to look it up, isn't it that guy from Tennessee?

And and on the right topic, good luck Chris!

I think Reynolds will end up leading the league in Ks and will prolly set a new record.

its sad that we could have 3 or 4 guys with over 100 strikeouts by the all star break this year. At least the others are just about producing enough elsewhere, Davis' offensive numbers are terrible, especially for the 1B. Past a point you have to say no matter how good you are in the field, if you cant hit and cant draw walks you are just hurting your team by turning up.

As I said before the 200 strikeout season will become common in the future.

What happened to Davis? He was a full time starter until the start of July and has only had a few games since? Was it injury or was he just dropped for being so terrible at plate discipline?

Anyway, Mark Reynolds thinks being the first and only person over 200 Strikeouts isnt good enough and should comfortably repeat his feat. I reckon he'll end up with ~215 slow walks back to the dugout. Funnily enough though he's actually been much better this year than last year.

I'm thinking Reynolds should be able beat his own record.
