In this week's SI, they write that Albert Pujols joined Stan Musial, Ted
Williams and Joe DiMaggion as the only players to have a BA of at least .330
upon reaching the 300 career home run mark. Is this true? It seem to me
that at least Ruth and Gehrig would have done it....and maybe Al Simmons
(if he had the homers).
Ruth certainly did. He hit his 300th in september '25. At the end of that season hs career BA was .345

Simmons did it. Hornsby too. Heck, Hornsby was hitting .359 when he did it. You'd think that would get mention.

They must have had some goofy qualifier that they didn't bother to share with the readers.

I figured (sine WWII) was left out of the sentence, otherwise its inane.

Simmons retired in '44, that's cutting it close, if WWII was the qualifier. Heck, that's only 7 years before DiMaggio quit.
Has anyone written to them to correct them?

Looks like they forgot Todd Helton, too; I'm pretty sure he was over .330 when he passed 300 home runs.
So even if you assume a post WWII qualifier, they botched it.

Helton was at .332 at the end of 2007. He had 301 HR at the time. Seriously, who does these guys' research?
