Hey guys, I know this will probably show my ignorance, but hey, I've already confessed my ignorance, so who cares. Anywho, I bought my son an inexpensive Easton bat and a couple weeks later I noticed it looked "weird". Upon further inspection, it seems to be "warped". If you roll it on a flat surface, it's very noticeable. I have heard of bats getting cracked and dented etc. but never knew warping was an issue (again it's probably baseball 101 and I'm just clueless). I asked other people associated with the team and they didn't seem to know anything. Is warping a common issue and I assume it renders the bat useless right? My son got his best hit ever (and the best from his entire team for the whole season) and I think it was already warped then. Perhaps it actually helps.

Just take it back for a replacement.

Warping in wood bats happens quite often. Most companies will sell them as blemished or discard them completely. It doesn't sacrifice the quality of the wood but can pose problems with hitting the sweet spot on correct swings.

If your son can hit with it, by all means let him use it. Just make sure to check bats when you buy them from now on. It shouln't have been sold as first rate.

CPatt44, it was a metal bat and I'm not sure it was warped when I got it, but I didn't know to even check for that.

As for returning it, no can do. Even though I thought using it in a batting cage was a bad idea, there was another guy at the cage who seemed to know more than I did, and his son was using a more expensive bat that mine in the cage. I figured heck, he's doing it, why not...LOL <insert comment about friends jumping off bridge here>

If you got it from an authorized dealer, then it should be covered under warranty.

I'm sure Easton is willing to admit that a metal bat should not be warped fresh out of the wrapper. See if you can find your receipt and go here:

They will probably replace it for you.
