What is yours? When is it too little? When is it too much?

This is a really good explanation of loading and when to do what to create seperation. Thanks to MSSandman for the 20th+ time for posting it here. This really helped my son a lot.

Obviously there's a difference between a guy like A-Rod or Pujols and the kid just starting to understand and execute this. Just like there's a big difference in pro golfers and duffers like me.

I think that what makes these guys so good is the ability, the understanding as well as the strength, to adjust. So, what's too little and what's too much is really relative to the ability of the hitter and the pitcher.

I like to think of loading as "buying time"

If you seperate the hands a bit from their original position then you loaded. If you did it in conjunction with a quiet stride step then you loaded well. If you slightly torqued your upper body as well as the pitcher released than you loaded about as well as anyone can load.

I also think of loading as the ability to put your body in the right position so that the kinetic links of the chain are all in the right position to attack the ball. Combine this with a good front foot push, hands staying high and finishing high, and bringing the bat head to the ball and rotating to contact then you have somethig.

A load without the rest of it is just a load. The load or the "take" is the key to being ready to hit. I tell kids to do the same thing weather they "take" a pitch or not. They have got to develop the muscle memory to "load" properly each and every pitch.
