Not a hard one I would think but I don't know the answer.

Can anyone give me the top five or so? (actually looking to find out where Plank/Bender fit in) Thanks

This one will be pretty easy to beat, I expect... but it took place over only 6.5 years, from mid-season 1902 to 1908. Joe McGinnity (151 wins) and Christy Mathewson (191 wins) combined for a total of 342, or about 53 a year.

I've got Plank (243) and Bender (193) combining for 436 wins from 1903 to 1914. That will be tough to beat, I expect.

Koufax and Drysdale at 340 between '56-'66 (Koufax 163, Drysdale 177)

Spahn and Burdette from 1951 to June 15, 1963 when Burdette was traded total 425 (Burdette 179, Spahn 250)

I think Matty & Wiltse are pretty close at 433 W?
Gomez & Ruffing are about 408

I found a combination with 586. Anybody want to guess who it is?Somebody with Cy Young. I thought we were only counting when two were together?

So is this what we have so far? Have these numbers been confirmed (by somebody other than RMB :waving)?

436 Plank/Bender
433 Mathewson/Wiltse
425 Spahn/Burdette
408 Gomez/Ruffing
408 Smoltz/Glavine

436 Plank/Bender

408 Gomez/Ruffing
408 Smoltz/GlavineI've only "confirmed" two of them. I might bet *your* life on them but ...

436 Plank/Bender
433 Mathewson/Wiltse
425 Spahn/Burdette
408 Gomez/Ruffing
408 Smoltz/Glavine

I went over everything and got this info:

440-236 Bender/Flank (1904-1914)
433-205 Mathewson/Wiltse (1904-1913)
429-274 Spahn/Burdette (1951-1963)
407-221 Ruffing/Gomez (1930-1942)
387-254 Glavine/Smoltz (1988-1999, 2001, 2002, 2008)

Smoltz was on the DL the entire 2000 season so should Glavine's 21 victories that season count towards the total?

<429-274 Spahn/Burdette (1951-1963)
407-221 Ruffing/Gomez (1930-1942)>

I'm, pun intended, in the ballpark on these ones.

Excellent question. Since he was on Atlanta's DL, I might give it to him. Still waiting on ipitch's revelation

Cy Young and Nig Cuppy have 418 from 1892-99, and 1901, although they were teammates on three different teams. Tim Keefe and Mickey Welch had 441 from 1880-82, 1885-89, and 1891 as teammates on first Troy and then New York. I guess 441 is the most so far.

No one knows?

Maddux + Glavine + Smoltz = 586 (if my quick math is correct)

EDIT: See post #19. I think 581 is the correct total.

:dance :dance :dance
Nowhere does it say it had to be only TWO teammates. :D

Does Cy Young's me, myself and I count for 511?

My math is a little off. I mistakenly counted Smoltz's and Glavine's 2008 wins total when I shouldn't have (because Maddux wasn't a teammate then). I think the correct total is 581.

Only if you were his teammate.

By the way, Happy 140th birthday! :candle:
