We played in a tourney this weekend and it was a blast. Dust flying, being around the kids and the other parents etc. We played some teams that chanted the whole game and some of it was very amusing. All of it was respectful. That being said what is....or was your favorite dugout chant.

I'm hoping you're talking about girls softball.

Wow go figure. That's the response I figured I would recieve. Chant cheer little sayings whatever. Over the past 5-6 years I have heard almost every "Boy's" team from 6-14 Whoop it up in some form or fashion. From Rec to very highly ranked national teams. Maybe it's just an Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, and Indiana thing! I just found some of it funny. That being said the more I think about it :silent: is better. If they have too much fun they may forget to enjoy the 60 game schedule. :lightbulb:

I'll chime in. I never was a chanter and probably never will be. (I also don't sing in church.)
But the boys I coach (9U) love to do it and as soon as any boy, on any team in Georgia, near as I can tell, leads off with, "My name is ____ and guess what I've got!" The "What have you got?" comes back loud and quick and they are off. This was true all last summer in the 8U tournaments (Dizzy Dean), including the World Series in Southaven, Mississippi.
Greatest hits include "I see a hole out there..." and "Rally on two like we always do..."

As long as they're having fun, more power to 'em.
As far as I see here in the Northwest there's no chanting during boys baseball games. Just the between inning team cheer or whatever before the kids hit or take the field now and then.

My daughters plays softball and the chanting is non stop from the time they warm up to the time they finish playing their 3rd game on a Saturday. I have to admit there are some catchy tunes that stick in my head lol. As for the boys when we go up to north Florida and to Georgia and other parts of the South east we have seen the boys chant quite a bit. Our boys do not chant but it's more like shouting encouragement to the players ie; Lets go two four, here we "johnny" etc... Call me a cave man but I think the chanting is best left to the girls. My own Daughter has even said that when she came up with us to a tournament in Georgia. But if it keeps the boys into the game I suppose it all good.

I guess the term chanting maybe isn't what I meant. What I was getting at was more like the nick names, little sayings, the harmless trash talking etc.... I think some of you got the cheer leading vibe from me. I think there is a difference maybe not. I have never been to a big time softball game. Our HS team plays today and I am going to watch so I understand what you all are talking about!:waving

As I understand it in Pony ball here, if there is anything said to the other team, in jest or not, the umpire will call unsporting behavior.
Rooting for one's teammates is fine and something we obviously encourage, nice rip KID!!, stuff like that. During practice and games the kids (13/14 year old) will yell HOT!!! when somebody makes a play on a well hit ball or hits a nice line shot. Kind of humorous.... even has us coaches doing it now.

I do really enjoy listening to the kids quietly sing along with the national anthem during the pregame ceremony.
